These guys are reasonably new after this venue had been shut down for a while. The food is definitely fresh and they provide a good range of quality seafood, steaks and salad. The staff are friendly and they do some reasonable specials during the week. Apart from the specials the food is a little on the expensive side and a couple of our steaks were a bit rarer than we wanted the other day but overall still a great experience and meal. Note that the specials they put on require purchase of a drink which are priced $6--$8
For a fish and chip shop Pacific Catch has a great deal of variety for family take away options. There is always a variety of fish types and also sizes at different prices to suit what different family members wish to eat. The chips are also pretty good and you can buy extra gravy to take away with you for a $1
A nice coffee shop style set up on the perimeter of the Brookside shopping centre. The service is polite, friendly and also with a smile while their home made baked goods always have you going back for seconds. I always recommend checking in the display case for a delicious snack with my tea or coffee.
Great little pie shop with plenty of variety. Easy access just off the highway and close to Shell service station. I tried the applecrumble pie the other day for a dessert which was really nice. It is slightly more expensive then Tramcars which is close by but has a different variety.
Stopped in at Tramcar's bakery on Easter Friday morning for breakfast and was very pleased to find them open even though it was a public holiday. They have a huge range of hot pies from which you can also add potato or peas to. I had a regular pie with peas which was freshly made and tasted beautiful. I also had a freshly made egg sandwich which was great. A nice stop and way better than McDonalds. Also has a bathroom for customer's use.
Approximate cost: $5
Went to the Gaythorne RSL club the other evening to have a few beers and a feed while watching the footy with my brother. A nice little old RSL club that does good sized meals of standard type pub grub. They also had trivia going there on the Monday night so we played that also. The staff were very friendly and drinks and meals are well priced. There is a discount on drinks and food if you are a member and membership is $1 for life so you can't argue with that :) A nice quiet well priced place to take the family for a meal.
I had a great lunch at the Pantry coffee shop the other day when visiting family. They have a better than average range of fresh quickly prepared hot and cold food than a normal coffee shop has. I had a home made style meat pie and a roast beef roll and both were very fresh and nicely made. The prices were also quite good I thought as well. It is a very busy little store in the brookside shopping centre so my only slight gripe was that it took a bit longer than what I would have expected for them to get my food ready. Other than that it was great.
The Pig'n whistle riverside see's heaps of professional types of people come down and enjoy a large range of beers on tap after work. It also offers a good variety of more gourmet style pub meals with a larger than normal price and quality range. The meal I ordered the other day was fresh with the steak cooked to perfection. There is plenty of room at the venue with an outside beer garden area at the front and back and also a number of different bars and areas inside the establishment. There are plenty of TVs with the latest sport on them and there was also some live music going on last time I was there. A good place to catch up with friends or colleagues
Some of the best views that you can see along the CQ coast while getting great meals and ice cold drinks. A great place to bring a date or for a special occasion with the family. The meals are fresh and good proportion sizes and the service by staff quite polite. It can get very busy of a weekend so getting meals can be a bit slow on certain nights. Meals are also a bit on the expensive side. Still a great place to check out.
The Sunset Tavern is probably the more upmarket of the two pubs in Karumba being the newest and also offering great views over the water. The menu while good is a little bit more limited than most places mainly due the fact that you are in such a remote location. There is a pub tab and pokies for those who enjoy a bet. I personally always enjoy sitting out side on the grassed area having a beer and watching the sunset over the water. If you don't like the food you can always try and catch your own as the water is right in front of you and I can personally vouch that I have caught fish from right next to that piece of beach :)
