Large news-agency we went to purchase some touristy stuff from but didn't have any! Don't these places stock bits and pieces of touristy gifts these days?
Postcards are the only thing we found . No collectables like t towels, spoons, magnets etc. so bought a couple of mags for about $9 and looked at other shelves of mags. Nicely set up shop, friendly man at counter that served us. Good country feel though very homely and welcoming. Just a shame these items aren't available. Lots of stock in papers and school stuff
Been here a few times over our stay in Stanthorpe for the weekend . Found some magazines to read at our accommodation and what i did notice was that they didn't have the usual touristy stuff in gifts like t towels, magnets and the like. A few postcards but thats about all. Has the usual stationary and basic supplies. Friendly service from the lovely. lady

What caught our eye walking the main st is this store with more footy stuff in it than ive ever seen in a country town before. The window had NSW FLAGS in it and almost all team items. We had to go in and have a look. Reminded me so much of old fashioned country stores. We went straight to the footy stuff lol purchased a huge flag for origin NSW. Cant find much nsw stuff living in qld! Found some team tattoos and had a oook around at other stuff. All your hardware needs and lots of footy stuff. Aisles are set up nicely and not bumping into other shelves. Lovely friendly lady at the checkout. Flagg was only $20 too. Have everything you think you might need
Great little store. Has all the conveniences of news papers, coffee, food good old fashioned milk shakes and all the things a good country corner store should have . They had a sign up as having the best chips around so we stopped for chips and a vanilla malt milkshake. They are open at 6.30 am until 7 pm daily. Well for $6 the box of chips could again have fed a family of 4! So many chips. A huge styrofoam container. They were very nice but nothing out of the prdinary to state they are the best chips. They were crunchy but only a bit bigger than french fries not proper full bodied chips but were yummy 😊 the milkshake satisfied my partner , been a long time since he had one and was hankering for it. Service was friendly and fast. Nice looking store and sells other food like pies etc. frozen foods, seats and tables outside. Great to see a milkbar still alive

Went waltzing up the main street looking for a gift shop to purchase something for our niece who was house sitting for us.
Found this lovely pink place and wandered inside. Lots of different nic nacs and gifts. We found the perfect pressie as our niece is going on a trip shortly and loves pink.
Found a pink padded glitzy document wallet for her and a rather highly priced luggage tag which i hope is leather because it cost more than the document wallet! But we liked it too much to walk away from it. Lovely little store, bit cramped to walk around comfortably though. I kept knocking things off shelves. Happy with our purchase and lovely lady serving us. Gift wrapping for a gold coin to their charity of choice is a nice touch.

under new management .now korean food
The restaurant re opened last friday night 6 june 2014. So we were there on opening night for dinner .we had booked and showed up on time . Apparently they hadnt expected so many people so service was a bit rough which is understandable on first night. They must have coaxed friends to help serve, the nice girl we had wasn't fluent in english and made it a little hard to order without pointing at the menu and she forgot to order our our dumplings which i was looking forward to. My partner ordered Korean beer to try which he thought was ok. I ordered a sprite which was brought to the table in the can,no glass. The wine glasses and serviettes were taken from our table when we were seated, without even asking if we would like any drinks. I had to ask for a glass and go get my own serviettes, little things that can be fixed if mentioned.dinner was ordered but we were told ten minutes later that the pork in curry sauce was unavailable so partner chose chicken with soy. I chose deep fried pork that came on a plate with enough food to feed 4. Was a little overwhelmed with that. It was delicious though in a spicy tomato sauce and chopped veges of carrot and onion and zucchini. We we also given a korean side salad which i have had elsewhere once. Spicy hot veg and a cold corn and soft noodle? dish which i liked better than the hot dish lol
Chicken in soy was brought to us in a frypan with a burner and slow cooked again at our table, novel idea loved it. deep fried pork. 2 Korean beers, sprite was $65 . We couldn't eat all the food and was advised we could have it boxed up to take home which we did. The boys tried hard on the night to keep .Took about 50 minutes to get both our dishes but like I said opening night and the crowd was unexpected. They also do sushi and what we saw from other diners was quite a plateful for 2. They need to cut down on the amount of food served per person . It's far too much and I can see a lot of waste if not down sized. The taste and quality was superb unusual. Not the normal everyday food. I enjoyed my dish as did my partner his chicken and soy. The chicken was actually pieces on the bone so was very nice. Decor needs to be a bit more cultural. The restaurant is easy on the eye with ted and black and brown. The boys are friendly and helpful and can take a bit of joking. All in all they did a fairly good job. We will endeavour to go back once they are settled in after a few months. See how they are going and try some new foods again. Give it a go,it is worth it ,the food is tasty and fresh and once things settle they should be great in the service dept.all up it cost us $65 which was great value for the amount of food we got. Was a nice ,interesting couple of hours

Aussie beef steakhouse stanthorpe
Attached to the motel. Decor is ok black and red. Nothing posh just mainstream. Waitress was nice but i feel she needed skme sort of uniform rather than just jeans to make her more professional.
Food was ordered of cob loaf with mozz cheese. seafood platter for me and rib eye steak for my partner with pepper sauce and veg.
Drinks were beer and sparkling apple juice. So cold it was beautiful, and refreshing.
The steak was cut like a hot knife through butter, so tender and juicy. The veg was nothing I like, that's why i didn't order it .lol.
Seafood platter I ordered included oysters which i don't like so i asked for them to be excluded and they added extra prawns. Whiting- lovely light crispy batter but whiting is never enough as its thin and small. Morton bay bug was truely the best i have had, so moist and tender, calamari strips they knew how to cook perfectly in a light crumb, the large prawns were tasty and meaty, not, like the frozen stuff from the supermarket with no taste and watery, beer battered chip and a small side salad, lemon ,tartare and cocktail, sauce. Could fault nothing of this meal!tender ,tasty, large and brought to us within 15 min. Place wasn't packed but then again it was thurd night in a country town.partner decided he wanted dessert of ny cheesecake with almond biscotti cream and strawberries. I had a taste and it was delicious ,the only thing I can fault with that was the biscuit was far too thick for biscotti which is meant to be paper thin not half and inch thick. The strawberries were so juicy and full of flavour. They use all local produce which you can tell is the freshest. The cobb loaf was so soft and the cheese melted just right for mozz to be stringy. Wasn't oily and was perfect. Cost us $105 . Parking is on the street. Plenty of room between tables so you're not hearing other conversations or bumping chairs? This place is lovely and pleasant. The menu is short, steaks ,one chicken dish and one vege dish but you can find something in the entrees or mains to you're delight. The food is delicious and we will certainly dine here again
We stopped here on our way through .the pies of $5:50 were huge pies homemade. Price was a bit steep for a pie in my opinion but we tried them anyway as not much to choose from. I chose beef .Quite large about 1.5 inch high. Filling didn't justify the pastry though. I took one bite and it fell apart.the pastry bottom couldn't handle it,quite a runny pie. Bits of pale beef and a bit salty. Disappointing in all. Nice looking shop clean friendly ladies.seating was inside. Beautiful carved wood tree trunk table in the cafe part. Rather stunning. Other things included cakes and sandwiches, the raspberry drink i had was only just either put in the fridge or the fridge wasn't working to capacity as my drink was just cool.prices were costly and it was trying to look like an up market cafe in the country. Black and yellow painted outside awning and walls ,its easily missed as i thought it was some art place and not easily seen between shops. A few pp in there but not crowded at 1 pm . The lady that served us was just doing her job nothing overly country friendly. Will try it again if up that way though wasn't terrible

We did a 3 night mid week stay for my birthday. Was heaven!
Maxine and her husband Rick are lovely hosts and very attentive but unobtrusive .
The cottages have their own car space set in the bushlands of stanthorpe down a laneway.
Nice homey decor, spa bath, heating lights in the bathroom, little touches are a delight.
Teddy on the bed, night light in the big bathroom, log fire quickly warms up the whole place. Great breakfast basket with bread, jams, bacon ,sausages, milk, juice and a bottle of red it was more than enough for our 3 day stay. Watching the parrots feeding from the bird feeder whilst sitting on the verandah eating our breakfast each morning was delightful. The surrounds are serene and comfortable. Bed was very cosy and comfy. I had a spa every day lol. Maxine and tick told us lots of places to see and do .lots of wineries around, shopping, cafes or just hang around your cottage by the fire and watch the wildlife. Relaxing and the kitchenette is well stocked. I love the omelette maker 😄 all in all a pleasant relaxing stay and we will return in the near future
