Cleveland Point is a secret little spot on a long thin peninsular with a park and historic weatherboard lighthouse. The Lighthouse restaurant is right near the end of the point and is in the perfect location for a seafood restaurant being almost surrounded by the sea.
So what about the food that you can enjoy on the wide open deck of this restaurant? So you are looking at mid price range for meals ($20-$30). You can have a little risotto or, if you want to spend big, a huge seafood platters (and they are huge).
The gourmet mean is probably a better choice though, providing beautifully presented options. The desserts though are where they excel themselves.
This is a great place to go for lunch all year round or dinner in summer (in winter it is dark already so while you have the sound and smell of the sea you don't have the view).
The Chermside area is rapidly becoming cool thanks to the medium to high density developments in the area. Like other cool cafes in the area, this place is not trying to be restaurant, but focusing on light meals, coffee and of course...cake.
The secret to Wilsons Boathouse is what you order. The menu is somewhat inconsistent. So many people leave feeling ripped off with mediocre food and other people are amazed by what they get.
Now personally my experience is with the seafood platter. Yes it is expensive, but a very big meal by the waterfront.
I also suspect like many restaurants in places that are much busier on weekends than weekdays, the weekend staff are more professional than the weekday staff.
Overall a bit overpriced to want to go back here.
Restaurant prices $20 to $40 mains in a casual cafe like environment (including bench seats outside) really bugs me. I have to admit the atmosphere is great, the views of the water at Many are great, but it is the sort of environment where you would rather have fish & chips, coffee, cake or a casual meal than a proper meal.
Still it is THE place in Manly to go for over priced fish & chips.
This seafood cafe with the naughty name seems to be more about burgers than anything else. To be honest the burgers don't look that great (have to admit that I haven't tried them) and I would rather go to one of the fish & chip shops on the foreshore for seafood, but they do nice coffee and cake. Nothing fancy mind you, but still a nice little cafe.
More of a pub that a restaurant, this place has mostly pub style food, with pool tables, live music (including Jazz jam sessions) and an outer deck with nice views.
Lunch prices start at $10 and dinner at $20. This is pretty good value for money though the burgers cost $18 which is a bit of a rip off.
While this place is a fairly decent buffet restaurant and a classy place to eat, the dishes are a little uninspired. What a way to insult your Chinese quests by serving Chinese street food in a 5 start hotel. What a way to have a go at your Indian guests by providing butter chicken. In Asia 5 star hotels don't give you that plastic american cheese just because that is what people eat in 'Merica.
The food is fresh, but it lacks any great pizzazz when it comes to flavour.
For people with money but interest in tasty food.
Brisbane has a small selection of fine dining restaurants with the majority of people heading to casual dining instead. Fine dining is something you should do now and then. People dress nicely (for Brisbane standards) and enjoy some great wine with their meal at Ecco.
Not a huge fan of fine dining, but Ecco is one of the great choices in Brisbane. It is also nice to fell you can dress nicely to go out and eat.
Whenever you see an Asian restaurant where the menu is sauce X with meat Y, you know it is not really authentic, because if you go to Thailand they tend to have actual dishes at their restaurants. Still it is reasonably cheap (for the Northern Suburbs) and is cooked well. Not particularly authentic.
I tend not to go to Windsor except to do furniture shopping. When I do, there are actually a surprising number of places to eat, snack and have coffee. Kafe Krave is one of these.
With nice meals they are a great place for lunch. I do think they try a bit hard with their presentation (if I have to pull apart your creation to eat it, it is not good presentation). However still they do an excellent job.
