Love taking the kids here. Its very educational - the animal displays are very cool, but its the dinosaurs that always draw us in. They have quite a few and they are very well arranged. The Phar Lap display is very impressive as well, as are the "Melbourne in the old days" displays.
One of the best things about it is the price! Its remarkably cheap for all that it offers, and that makes it one of the best value places in Melbourne to take the kids for an afternoon, or even just to wander around yourself.
Stepping into Kay Craddock is a little bit like stepping back in time. There are a lot of old antique books on offer, though the prices for these tend to be fairly hefty. There are also some newer books there as well, but I couldnt see anything from this millenium.
Service tends to be the "hands off, leave them alone" type, which I actually really like, but they are always happy to answer any questions you may have.
Also stocks some artwork, which is nice, but you'd only really come here for the books.
Excellent range of instruments on offer, and the prices range from pretty good to way-over-the-top. Service is ok, though I took an acoustic guitar in to be repaired and they lost the case for it. After much whinging on my part they swapped it for something better, then after 2 days they magically found my case again. So, they might be all smiles and knowing, but their organisational skills are a little be lacking.
Hungerlicious is a good little take away food joint on Hall St, offering the usual take away foods that you get most places and a little bit more. The staff are friendly and attentive and the prices are reasonable. They make a great bacon and egg roll!
I went to Seagulls not expecting much and unfortunately I wasn't disappointed. It ticks the boxes, in that it has a bar, some tv's, a TAB, pokies etc, but that's all it does. It's a dodgy club and there was almost a knife fight in front of me. If you had the choice of going to Seagulls or anywhere else, choose somewhere else. It'll be cleaner, nicer, and safer than here.
Tasman Meats is cheap but not nasty (at least, not all the time...). They also do other products like eggs, drinks, veg etc at good prices. Make sure you carefully inspect what you are buying - I once bought lamb shanks that still had some fur/wool/whatever you want to call it on the end, which I thought was a little bit not-quite-right. Generally however the quality is good and its certainly at the right price. Its easy to fall into the trap of purchasing in bulk though, as the selection is huge, so be warned.
This butcher is very slick, with an excellent range of meats (including a good seafood selection). Its a bit more expensive than some other butchers, but they do offer a loyalty program as well that will give you a discount intermittently, so thats pretty cool. Service is good, quality is excellent.
My favourite butcher in the west. Their selection is pretty good, the quality of the meat is exceptional, the prices are right, and the staff are amazing. They always love a chat and its really like how butchers used to be back in the old days. Every experience I've had has been a good one.
This is possibly the worst KFC in Australia. The staff are all young, bored, and disinterested in providing any form of service at all. They are inefficient, the restaurant itself is always messy, and if you order more than 2 items they always get it wrong, and you end up paying for things that you ordered but didnt get. Avoid it like the plague.
Andiamo is a great cafe with loads of atmosphere and a generous amount of seating both inside and outside (its a bit cramped though - they squeeze them in!). Service is ok - its easy to get forgotten about and today I had to wait longer than I wouldve liked, but the food is good - its no michellin star restaurant, but its cafe style food done pretty good, and it gets to you quickly (once you've been served haha). Prices are pretty good considering its location.
