Knopwoods is a Hobart Institution. By day they serve great meals at very reasonable prices. A lot of the menu changes daily so you never get bored. You can sit inside or relax in an outdoor table on the footpath at Salamanca, and watch the world go by.
By night, it is a very popular pub and draws record crowds at holiday time, ie Christmas Eve, New Years Eve etc.
Vanidols specialises in Thai, Indonesian and Indian fusion cuisine and they have a variety of dishes on the menu, from Pad Thai to Chicken Tikki Masala. It is located in the North Hobart restaurant strip and has a nice intimate feel to the restaurant.
They do take aways as well as dine-in, and offer BYO.
My favourite dish on their menu is laksa.
I recently went to Sharkra for a deluxe facial, having never had a facial before. The atmosphere and decor was fantastic and the beautician knew what she was doing. I felt so good afterwards and couldn't stop smiling!
Any facial that starts with a back massage, and involves an electric blanket and doona is going to win my vote!
This is a rare find - a real German bakery in Hobart. They do wonderful brezels and bread, but my favourite is the poppy seed scrolls (snails) and bread. Unfortunately I think they only make those now on Saturdays.
Always popular and they can sell out of things quickly.
This is a great attraction to take the family as it makes the forest easily accessible. It is a fair drive from Hobart but well worth it.
There is a section of the walk that is only for the brave hearted - I won't ruin the surprise - but I wasn't game.
The food here is quite tasty, but it doesn't offer the same value for money as other lunch options around the CBD. It is very expensive compared to the other Indian place across the road.
You can dine in or take away. I believe you get a large serve if you eat in.
While the food is nice, it's not my number one choice for Indian because I don't believe it's the best value for money.
This is a cute little cafe near the Bellerive waterfront. The food is amazing! I particularly recommend their lasagna.
They have a selection of cakes you can have there or take away.
They also have a cafe in New Town.
All the cup cakes here are beautifully presented so they are fantastic as a special treat, for work morning teas or parties. They also do large cakes, which look like cupcakes, to order.
Approximate cost: $4
Many people seem to think this is the best steak restaurant in Hobart. It's not my favourite steak place but it's OK. You do pay a lot more than some other restaurants for steak, but the atmosphere is nice and the meals come with a self service salad bar.
An instructor from this business presented a one hour session at my office workplace on doing Yoga at your desk. The session was designed to introduce us to yoga and relaxation methods to reduce stress and the aches/pains associated with sitting in front of a computer all day.
The session was fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone else.
It's fantastic they can tailor sessions for workplaces and introduce yoga and meditation to people who may not otherwise attend yoga.
