I have very mixed feelings about this place: on the one hand, I think the staff and the whiskey selection are exceptional, and the atmosphere is wonderful and full of friendly folk from all over the world; on the other hand, the whiskey is just so expensive! I understand that a lot of what they offer isn't available elsewhere in Sydney, but golly, the prices really make me miss living in the UK!
That being said, The Baxter Inn is definitely the best place for whiskey in Sydney, and one of my favourite bars!
Excellent location, and a very good atmosphere within the restaurant. The food was very fresh and delicious, and the "Tuna Creation" entree (with matching salts) was by far the best. Extremely pricey, but well worth the experience!
A stylish Japanese restaurant with excellent service. The waitstaff were all very attentive and knowledgeable, and were happy to chat. Loved the food and drinks, but my favourite was my dessert: Chocolate fondant with a miso centre--unique flavours, and absolutely delicious!
Went for lunch with my sister on her last day of high school, and really enjoyed the atmosphere, which was such a welcome respite in the middle of the day. The food was beautiful, and the service outstanding. We loved the creativity of the menu, and were great fans of the mixed drinks and the desserts (green tea puff and chocolate terrine!).
I used work here as a bartender when the restaurant first opened, but now return as a customer because I like the menu, and the food is really affordable. The wagyu here is the best quality for the most reasonable prices in Sydney, and the other dishes (such as the sushi) are pretty decent, too. I do think the service has room for improvement--the restaurant is always very busy, and although mostly efficient, the waitstaff don't seem to be particularly knowledgeable or keen on customer service. That being said, I'll definitely keep returning for the food and drinks, which I love.
Essentially an upscale ramen bar, this place always seems to be full. The ramen's very good, if a little expensive, but the signature dumplings always steal the show for me. The service is pretty good for the most part, but there was one time when a waiter became a little too insistent, which was irritating.
Absolutely beautiful food--perhaps the best Japanese I've found so far in Sydney. The flavours, presentation, and quality of the food are simply exceptional, and the value is great for what it is.
Unfortunately, my only qualm is with the atmosphere of the restaurant--the music was rather loud, which meant the diners all had to raise their voices to be heard, which then exacerbates the problem. As the evening progressed, the restaurant started to resemble a rowdy eatery, which was a huge shame as I thought the food to be outstanding!
One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Sydney. The food is exceptional, and simply bursts with flavours--I've been here many times over the years, and have yet to be disappointed with anything on the menu. The service is also absolutely fantastic--the other evening, one of the waitresses folded my napkin and replaced it on the table while I was in the bathroom. Although it's quite pricey, I've thoroughly enjoyed every dining experience at Azuma!
Went for dinner on a weekday. Quite a decent selection of Japanese food, and the sushi is very good. A little overpriced for what it is, but there aren't any other sushi places in the vicinity. The service is mostly good, but it took a while (about 15 minutes after ordering) for drinks to be served (just a beer and cider, so nothing fiddly was required). Otherwise, it was a pretty good meal.
Delicious Thai food in a spacious, open restaurant with very comfortable seating. The servings are generous and the presentations beautiful--a little pricey for Thai, perhaps, but the ambiance and seating made up for it.
The waitstaff are very friendly and helpful, and brought up the list of cocktail ingredients when asked about the drinks. Although the rest of my group got their drinks quite quickly, my cocktail took 30 minutes to arrive, and needed reminding. Everything else arrived promptly, and the rest of the meal went without a hitch.
It's a shame the whiskey here is so expensive.
