Professional & knowledgeable mechanics

I recently had my 2007 Holden Commodore SV6 VE timing chain replaced by UMR Engines on Moss Street, Slacks Creek. My local mechanic recommended UMR as specialists for this work because timing chain replacement on the Alloytec engines is a major job, often requiring two days in the workshop.

The booking process was straightforward, with a two-week lead time given their busy six-mechanic workshop specialising in timing chains, engine reconditioning, and general mechanical repairs. I dropped my car off as scheduled and picked it up two days later as promised.

While I was initially expecting a cost of around $3,500 to $4,000 for the timing chain alone, Zoran (owner) explained that they had also replaced the oil pump (good preventative maintenance when doing the timing chain), the water pump (while accessible), the radiator and hoses, and spark plugs. The total cost came to $5,500 including GST, which I accepted given the comprehensive nature of the work.

After picking up my car, I noticed a rough idle when the engine was cold. I called Zoran who told me to bring it back in. On the first return visit, the team couldn’t replicate the issue and suggested it may settle as the engine ran in. However, the rough idle continued, so I returned early one morning and took Graham (head mechanic) for a drive to demonstrate the issue when cold. He confirmed it straight away, and I left the car with them.

Two days later, they called to say the issue was fixed – a cracked spark plug was found and replaced, at no charge to me.

Later that day after my drive home, I noticed an oil leak with smoke coming from the engine bay. I called Zoran again, brought the vehicle back, and they identified an engine mount that also needed replacing, which I approved for $440 including GST. They also fixed the oil leak at no extra cost.

While it was inconvenient to return twice, I cannot fault their professionalism and service. Zoran and the team listened to my concerns, took responsibility, and resolved the issues thoroughly and fairly. Mechanics are often judged on cost and quality, and UMR Engines delivered both in a professional and honest way. My Commodore now runs very smoothly and I have peace of mind knowing the work was done properly.

As a token of my appreciation for their efforts, I dropped off two cartons of beer for the team. Zoran mentioned that hardly any customers do that anymore, but I was happy to do it as they did a great job for me.

I highly recommend Zoran, Graham, and the entire team at UMR Engines for any major engine or mechanical repairs.

We needed an air conditioning unit installed in a recently purchased house as part of the renovations project. I found John and the Acer team at the Brisbane Homeshow. Discussed with him our needs - sent him the floor plan and he advised the correct size for our house. I wanted a "name brand" and he suggested Mitsubishi - which I was happy with - no cheap imported no name air conditioner for me!. He advised the correct size - gave me the quote - I accepted and we booked the installation time/date. The Electrican / Installers arrived on time - did the job - no fuss - they invoiced me - I paid the invoice and now I have a great air conditioning unit in the house. So- great service start to finish - happy with the price - and would highly recommend this business to anyone int he market for air conditioning.
