I’ve purchased many beautiful pieces over the years—both directly from what was Ruby Star Traders and through other stockists. However, I was recently surprised by a $45 postage fee for a discounted cushion and reached out to query it. In response, I received a very rude and defensive email from the owner. She acknowledged I’d been a long-time customer but went on to verbally attack me for ‘mainly buying during sales’—as if that somehow made my support less valid. Whether customers shop during sales or not, I believe all deserve to be treated with respect. It was a disappointing and unnecessary exchange and she was full of contempt. Perhaps this kind of attitude toward customers is part of why the business is sadly closing. I can only wonder how they treated their artisans in India
From the moment you step in the Preston store the manager is shrieking at you to buy buy buy. I was fooled into buying an expensive dress which actually doesn't suit me at all. Unless you are 6ft and fairly straight up and down, nothing suits.
Approximate cost: $280
