A classy pub to have a beer and pizza. They have specials on most nights and this place is swish and considerably fitted with animals (silhouette kind). Now although most people do not come here just for the bathroom facilities, I have to say it's a good place to hideout for the non-shoppers whilst the shopaholics are doing their thing on Chapel Street.

My most favourite croissant is created here. Crusty yet soft in the centre with just a small aroma of that crisp, freshly baked scent. It is just the right size to eat without making a flaky mess. Perfect.
They make to-die-for lamb pies (amongst a vast range of pies), friands, refined donuts with unique fillings and loaves of bread.
If you want to experience the food adventures of a true Melburnian, this is your compulsory pit stop. Get in early before the popular stuff gets sold out.

You know you are onto a good thing if this place is almost at full capacity and abuzz with chatter and laughter.
I came here one day wondering what the fuss is all about and it appears that this is the place to be for one of the best parmas I have had in Melbourne. It's a bit noisy and found it hard to converse but I was happy to enjoy my meal and people watch as this is Chapel Street after all!
Service depends on the staff member (generally good), your expected price point (higher end of cafe pricing) but I say it is worth it - food is great!
If only they had this restaurant in Melbourne! I love this place if anyone ever visits Sydney or Brisbane! You can order by touch screen (sample pictures with descriptions) and the meals come out quickly and are really delicious in an authentic Japanese way.
Super organised and the kitchen runs like clockwork and rarely skips a beat. The staff are helpful and efficient and sometimes life is just easier with technology isn't it?
Highly Recommended.

Super fast, cheap meals available here. I generally spend about $10 on the bento boxes. It's a rather run down little shop but no one is here for the decor or to propose marriage! Your meals take about 2-3 minutes - I know, it's super fast! Taste wise is good for the money given the time it takes to get to your hot little hands. It's not fabulous but this the nature of the beast - speed and low price.
I like the bento boxes (miso soup, spring roll, main dish, rice, fruit/salad) as I get bored of eating the one dish. The bentos also have seasonal fruit which is nice to have when you know you have devoured deep-fried chicken or pork! There is not real service here... it is actually order at the counter and pay.
Like the food pumped out with Japanese efficiency, this is no place to linger.
Recommended if you want a quick meal that's easy on the back pocket.

Came here on the weekend and loved the ambience in this historical building on Main Street. Its warm lighting, inviting demeanour and it's a little romantic might I say. The food looks great on the plate and will definitely whet the appetite!
We had 3 dishes.
1. Mum's famous crab dip - consisted of fresh blue swimmer crab meat, super cream cheese based with finely chopped tomato, red onion and Italian flat leaf parsley. This was served with lavosh poppy seed biscuits. The dip was so good I was tempted to just eat it by itself. $14.50
2. Crumbed veal cutlet served with roasted chat potatoes and feta and roasted capsicum salad. This was ok, felt the dish was too oily. The veal wasn't crispy but soaked in oil. Everything else on the plate was good. $31
3. Ravioli filled with beetroot and ricotta choose dressed with a sweet pea mash, rocket and pan seared chicken. First I must say that the chicken was the best I have ever had. It was moist, juicy and slightly crispy on the edges. (despite only 2 pieces). Pea mash was a winner and the ravioli was cooked to perfection! $26
The service was friendly and casual. It wasn't too crowded and had a great buzz. Big menu and it is bound to cater for the fussiest eaters. I like this place, it has the right balance of good food and service and will be coming back. Recommended.

Sometimes you just want to sit in a homely, cosy place to just enjoy a simple but delectable chicken mayo sandwich with a creamy hot chocolate on-campus of the Melbourne University, Burnley. In fact, this is one of their specialty signature dishes that was named in The Age's top 10 sandwiches in Melbourne. I regularly come here to enjoy their soups with crusty bread and afterwards I would take a stroll through the lush Burnley Gardens listening to the birds singing to their hearts' content.
This is a really peaceful, serene place.
If your appetite yearns for more, other options include house made pies, sausage rolls, quiches soups, green/red curries, homemade friands, milkshakes or what ever the chef feels like making that day.
Did I add that this was one of the legends of Melbourne fine dining who trained top talents seen on Masterchef, Dessert Queen Phillipa Sibley and My Kitchen Rules judge (also Better Homes and Gardens regular) Karen Martini? Tansy Good (previously from Pearl, Tansy's) and the food was so good I wished it was open on weekends. She and her partner are so lovely and it feels like you have dropped in to visit family.
Highly recommended and affordable, but only open during school hours on weekdays. A simple canteen but once you try their sandwiches, everything else is really irrelevant and you will be coming back to this place with open arms. This understated canteen is where the food shines amongst the natural greenery. Your stomach will be singing.

Lovely coffee, fresh produce in a quaint location. Perfect on a sunny, blue sky, Winter's morning where the heaters are doing its job in the deck out the back. This is a real gem of a place and you can really see why there are lines streaming out the door and onto the tram stop right outside.
Breakfast is generously served and whilst they have kept their menu for sometime (why change a good thing?) the specials keep it fresh and interesting. This is one of my absolute favourite locations in suburbia made famous for their crispy bacon with fresh corn fitters served with chutney and sour cream! If you are waiting in line, they may come and take your order for coffee while you wait outside. Mart 130 may be backwards for 'tram (stop) 130' but like the good but quirky things of Melbourne bring your best friends, they will love it here! Recommended!

Service was great however I found the main portion sizes rather small. I ordered the soft shell crab as entree followed by the seafood pasta. The mussels and clams were a joke. The size of each mussel was smaller than my fingernails. Honestly, I expected more from this restaurant. The food was tasty but I felt for this price point I was expecting a little more.
A good romantic French restaurant all the same... Just expect small portion sizes.

Thanks to the good influence of Steer Bar and Grill (great steaks), South Yarra has been blessed with another delicious eatery for carnivores.
I had the Mr Miyagi burger and it was soooo good! Had a teriyaki basted pattie with wasabi Kewpie Mayo and daikon! Handcut chips, pickles and salad were a great accompaniment. They also have chicken wings, cobb salad, slaw, hotdogs, beer and milkshakes. Cannot wait to go back and try the rest of the menu offerings!
