SMC Computers

I have now used SMC Computers on & off over a number of years. Syd & Mark bend over backwards to get to the bottom of problems that crop up from time to time. The latest need was the result of a "crash". They got to the heart of the problem which was caused by Microsoft downloading overnight. Well done!

I installed Windows 10 but still wanted to use internet explorer (Windows 7) until I was familiar with Windows 10. Mark and Syd set my default back to what I was comfortable with but left Windows 10 on my computer also so I could learn it. Since I am not tech savvy I have found them to be very helpfully and as such this is the second time I have used them. There was charge :-)

Our computer was shutting down whilst in use, had a sortkey.nlp missing. they had it up and running on same day of service, as well a memory card was stuffed.

I found SMC computers to be friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and would recommend them in an instant. Their turn around time was very quick and their prices surprisingly affordable (from past IT maintenance companies I've used). Excellent customer service 10/10

I have a mini-ITX home theatre box which suddenly failed to boot (no POST). I tried to figure out which component was broken (I work in IT developing software, hardware is just a hobby) but ran out of alternate parts to switch with while bread-boarding. I took the fully disassembled PC in to SMC and they were able to determine the motherboard was the faulty component and order in a new one that very day! As I wasn't able to pick it up for a couple of days this gave them time to assemble all those scattered components back into the mini-ITX case for me. Thanks guys!
I find that Mark and Syd are always personable and friendly, and I am glad they are my local PC specialists because their service is at a level which is hard to find these days.

Removed viruses and got rid of annoying pop up adverts. Initially advised 2 days for repair but only took 24 hours

went in to replace some ram, with the motherboard model number, ended up going back with the Pc as they weren't sure if it would take.

everything went well, the service was great and they even replaced a few screws that had gone missing over the years

Recently I placed my down & out Windows 8 Home Computer into Mark & Sid's hands at SMC Computers. This I did with great confidence after my daughter had her computer serviced there. On collection after 24 hours they fully explained its repair and upgrade to Windows 8.1. Great customer service at a reasonable price. I am now smiling like my daughter.

Went in to check what type of SSD I had in my laptop. Although it was well hidden (it's a Dell Alienware) they manage to locate it. Very impressed with the service and they did not charge me. Will be going back to get the SSD upgraded.

My PC was stopping for no apparent reason. Took it to SMC where they quickly discovered the problem was the fan. Had it replaced and the PC was at home, up and running again in about an hour. As always, excellent service at a very reasonable price.

We bought a new computer,what we thought we had installed an anti virus,but kept on coming up with a health boost virus kept on wanting for us to purchase! Didn't think this was right since Norton should hv been covering it! Straight away the 'computer boys' told us,it was virus!
they only took 2 days!

So I needed a screw for my laptop --- that's right, one single screw, less than 5mm long.... So I went in to ask if they had some. I took along one of the same size so I could make sure I was getting it right.
There were two blokes working in the shop. Both were very kind and helpful.
Unfortunately I didn't catch the first one's name. He went in back and brought out a couple of screws to check. They were close but not quite a winner.
Then he deferred to the second bloke, Mark, who had just finished with another customer. He had a quick look out the back, then about 30 seconds later came out with a good candidate he'd just 'ripped out of an old clunker' referring to a malfunctioning for-spares laptop he had out the back.
I said, 'sweet!' followed by 'what do I owe you?' and was pleasantly surprised when he joked (You know those screws cost $150 each!)
We had a good laugh after which it was clear that no charge was necessary.... (it was, after all, just one tiny computer-screw).

All in all this experience has been thoroughly refreshing! Have you ever been in an electronics/computer store and felt you had to avoid the workers as much as possible lest they co-opt you into buying something you don't need? A cynical person would say that's the norm in the business world, but the people at SMC computers have restored a small piece of my faith in the goodness of people --- THEY ACTUALLY WANTED TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM. It was great! That was their top priority for the time I was there.
Any further purchasing decisions were left to me, the customer, to make. As it should be!
SMC Computers are now my first port of call for all things computer-related.
And you know what, that screw fit into my laptop perfectly.

I bought a new computer from them with the new Windows 8.1 programme. They transferred all my old files to my new computer and took the time to explain how Windows 8.1 works.

Change over faster larger drive for HP laptop.
Needed computer urgently so it was done within a couple of hours

I deleted a program from my computer with disastrous results.
I also collected a virus around that time so my computer was not happy. Mark took care of all my problems within 24 hours and we are all happy now.

Had issues with a backup system, printer, and missing files from programs and a general query. Service was courteous, very efficient and done it a manner I could understand. Thanks S and M.

Initially had a virus removed from my computer then my hard drive crashed and needed replacing which they did promply. I was also unable to post photos on a fishing forum that i am a active member of and the forum administrator wasn't able to resolve why his server wouldn't now accept what i have previously been able to post. SMC Computers and myself spent around 5 hrs working out what was causing the problem and now all good. Note i was not charged for the time they spent working through the problem. I also bought a combo print/ scan/ copy unit off them which they set up to my computer while i was their. Exemplary service !

Computer start up problems caused by contaminated downloads, fixed everything with great service

thanks to the guys there who look after my computers they have been terrific in everything they have done for both of us here at least if i have a problem i know it will be spoken in a language i can understand
