My family love the food here, always fresh and authentic. It is a little pricey but worth it!
came here hoping for great food, but was left underwhelmed - lacked flavour, noodle soup was bland and basic.
Great quality and fresh food made with good quality ingredients. Worth a visit but on the expensive side of dining, especially for the area.
Really good chinese food, but the prices are towards the expensive side. Definitely worth a try if you've never been!
The food here is really good. I love coming here although it can be a bit pricey, there are big portions with what you get.
yum cha was definately nice to have at dumpling king, but the pricing was higher than some other restaurants, modern decor, makes it feel more comfortable and relaxing to have a meal with family and friends.
Really love the food here although prices are a bit higher than other restaurants around, however definitely worth the extra money,
Thank you Keenan - was looking for a new eatery to try. Will check it out.
We waited quite a while to receive our entrees. I received mine well after every one else and I didn't receive my main course until 1 1/2 hrs. after we ordered. My friends all had their food, so I hungrily watched them eat theirs as I couldn't eat their food due to allergies. I had to ask for mine several times and finally only got my food when my friends had nearly finished theirs. I was so hungry ! Very disappointing and difficult to get a waiter's attention.
The setting, furniture was lovely and food tasted good.......service was a thumbs down.
Lovely traditional Chinese restaurant. Nice environment, lots of delicious Chinese food. They serve big portion with reasonable price. Highly recommend!
I heard some great reviews about Dumpling King and decided to drop in with friends while in Box Hill. The dumplings were average and the customer service was poor. We had to keep calling the staff over to order drinks and food each time. The prices were a bit high also. Had better.
Approximate cost: $18.00
Always a full house, but hardly ever an Asian customer in sight at this well known spot in Box Hill. Very very good dumplings and passable other stuff. Highly recommended. Probably better places in Box Hill for a more "authentic" asian cuisine experience tho.
Approximate cost: $100
The dumplings are pretty good but overall I still prefer David and Camy's accross the road from this shop. I must admit though this place has better and tastier spring onion pancakes. The service here is also quite friendly and efficient.
For authentic Northern Chinese food at a reasonable price you can't go past this place. Highlights of this restaurant include Spring Onion pancake, Crystal noodles with chicken and mustard, turnip pastries, xiao loong bao, four season dumplings, hot plate chicken and vegetarian goose. Well, there's actually more but rather than spoil it for you it's better you visit the place to try the other dishes. They are also offering yum cha, however that is Cantonese or Southern Chinsese cusisine and their expertise is in Northern /Shanghainese food. One last suggestion, save room for the custard pancake or if you're a fan of red bean, order the red bean pancake for dessert.
A great place to enjoy Northern Chinese food.
Approximate cost: $20
The dumplings are terrific! The place can be crowded and can be very noisy. Kid friendly. Staff very helpful, can be slow especially if the place is full.
The best dumplings in Melbourne! Frequented by locals the restaurant is always busy so be sure to book! Great service and value!
Approximate cost: $15
Overall the menu for main meals is not great - can take it or leave it, but the dumplings here are to die for. exceptional and one of the best places in eastern suburbs for dumplings I have found. Dining experience in was ok, ambience is nice, but service did leave alot to be desired. Anything other than dumplings we have ordered has dissapointed, but for takeaway dumplings this is the place to go. Parking is horrendous, but that is just Box Hill in general when dealing with the immediate area around Box Hill Central.
Get takeaway if you can - its cheaper and avoids having to sit there and wait for service as it can be mighty slow!!! Otherwise, the food is really yummy - especial the vegetarian dumplings.
The place is always packed with people. The dumpling is good. But the best is the 8 Treasure duck. In order to eat that dish, you are required to pre-order the dish. The yang zhou fried rice is good too. If you plan to go, definitely call them and order an 8 treasure duck and make a booking!
The dumplings taste great - most dishes are good but the service is lousy! we have been there a few times but everytime the service is consistently bad. The waiters seem to ignore us when we wave to them and take ages to serve us, or to get the bill ready. Or if they did see you they look away and pretend not to, it is the only restaurant where i have been to that has such terrible service!!! And one time we ordered whole fish with sweet and sour sauce, they gave us fish fillets instead and we have to eat and pay for something we did not order.
Approximate cost: $20
Yes you can order more than just dumplings, but why would you?? The choice and flavour of the dumplings are great.. these guys can get quite busy on the w/e so naturally the service is not 5/5... but its a great place to visit for some authentic Chinese dumplings... just like the ones i had in Shanghai :)
Approximate cost: $10
One of the better Chinese Restaurants in Box Hill. Very good food, good prices, helpful service. Usually not noisy and crowded like many others in the area. BYO and licensed. Dumplings are delicious and they will suggest a good selection if you do not know what to choose. They also do good plated dishes.
Our experience at The Dumping King was HORRENDOUS "and that's an under statement". Mother Day 2010, must admit it was a busy night but we arrived just after 6pm, it took them 20mins to offer us a drink then we order. 1hr later entrees arrive and then 45min after mains arrive "Mongolian Chicken" the chicken wasn't cooked. The management offered no apology just the bill.
WHAT A JOKE "Bad service, bad food, bad experience!!!!
We left and had to go to another restaurant as we were all still staving!!!
Conveniently located at Doncaster shopping centre, this small take-away shop serves some of the best dumplings in town. However, noodle type orders, the noodles are very bland and left pretty tasteless. Do not order a noodle soup, better to get stick with the dumplings. Dumplings, can't go wrong imo!!!
Approximate cost: $10
Amazing dining time and time again. Excellent food with the best quality ingredients. Sure, you pay an extra $1 a dish compared to others in box hill... but this is more than made up by the far superior ingredients, and consistently fresh and amazing food.
My husband and I really enjoyed our night out here without the baby! The service was very good but the food was very slow, which was very disappointing. We ordered the dumplings which were delicious, but was embarrassed when the poor table next to us and been waiting over 45 mins and ours arrived before theirs. Aside from that, beautiful food in a nice little busy location.
Great dumplings and good range of other dishes available. Service can be slow but the dumplings are worth the wait. They do a wonderful barramundi dish that I would recommend.
The service is fast enough and Dumplings are like heaven like, I visit them every weekend. Never bother booking just walk in and you should get a place to sit. Enjoy
Approximate cost: $10
Great food and like the place clean etc... Went there with a mate and the guy tried to take our order before we even sat down. within 5 mins the food was out. .. Not some people would say thats good service??? Maybe at Maccas.. These people just wanted in and out. Might have been racial preference. Might have been just that waiter that night.. I will try again and let ya's all know.
Approximate cost: $8
I have been there several times in the past an always had a good experience. I tried to make a booking last week but realised that they set up their answering machine incorrectly and couldn't get through (Hopefully a temporary problem!) Anyway turned up on the day (Saturday lunch) and got a table for two early easily but it did get pretty busy quickly. Great variety of dishes, especially dumplings (Saves waiting for a Yum Cha trolley on a Sunday!) and reasonably priced. Unfortunately they didn't have the "Four Seasons" dumpling (I recommend it for it's presentation as much as it's taste!) but the friendly waiter was happy to offer alternatives when I asked. Great place for a reasonably priced meal with family or friends.
Approximate cost: $15
This would have to be some of the best Chinese food I have tasted. We came here for my mum's birthday and had a great time. Traditional round tables make for great conversation (with lazy susan of course). For entree we had a selection of dumplings and these were very tasty. We then shared a number of other dishes - each of them excellent. The staff were great too - pretty busy but as soon as you needed them , they were right there.
