Dick Smith are driven by price. Every time I have been in to one of their stores the sales person that's spoken to me has been more interested in asking for the sale and focus on the price, than finding what I'm after.

There is a good selection of electronics. However, brand-wise, there is not a lot to choose from. The staff are generally friendly and knowledgeable, but the prices are on the high side.

If I'm looking for computer software or any type of gadget I go straight to the nearest Dick Smith store. You cannot beat the service of the trained staff who have knowledge of the products. Last time I shopped there after walking out of Big W in a huff they matched their prices with the slightly cheaper ones in Big w.
