We've started going to trivia at The Alliance Hotel and are thoroughly enjoying the atmosphere. For starters, the trivia game is well organised, fun and addictive, but also, the hotel itself is a great location. There is street parking within metres of the hotel so it's very convenient, or I'm sure there are good public transport options.
There is a fairly old school pub atmosphere in the front but a warm, welcoming restaurant at the back downstairs. The decor is appealing and seating is comfortable. Upstairs is the trivia room.
The staff at The Alliance are brilliant. They're very obliging, cheerful and dedicated to their jobs and I understand it's because The Alliance is a family-run pub, not attached to 'the powers that be' by any puppet strings. From what I've seen, staff take pride in their work and are treated well.
The meals and snacks menus are quite comprehensive and contain enough variety to keep everyone happy. The Wagyu Burger is a big hit and people rave about it.

I needed to find the best solution for a sim card for overseas use and looked high and low for information. I finally remembered www.prepaidplans.com.au and found exactly what I needed!
This site is a wealth of information about all kinds of prepaid mobile phone plans. It's run independently of any brand of mobile products so you can count on all the information being completely unbiased. You get to find out the best deals to suit your individual needs.
It also helps you figure out the best international phone card for the country you call most frequently.
I found prepaidplans.com.au incredibly useful and now have the ideal solution for the overseas trip. So grateful!
P.S. I left it to the last minute so have to go to a retail store to buy my sim but the site actually enables you to purchase online and the cards will be posted to you. Brilliant!
I've purchased from Trim-A-Weigh before and found their meals to be above average for this kind of arrangement. I have just placed a new order online and can definitely recommend the ease of online ordering, plus the helpful manner of the person who answered the phone when I called before placing my order.
Overall, the cost seems expensive but if you don't have anyone else to buy groceries for, then it works out quite cost-effective.
You can also specify if you want low GI, gluten free, low sodium and vegetarian meals. Great little Brissie business.
Delicious breakfast, good coffee and friendly staff ... it's a lovely, benevolent wakeup call when you need a morning pick-me-up. They use Pepe Saya handmade cultured butter, of which I'm a fan so that was good for starters. The owners themselves serve you and they are professional and enthusiastic.
It's a great little place that seems deceiving from the outside. It actually seats around 100 people in a slightly eclectic but comfortable environment.
Will definitely return :)

We dropped in to Drive In Mower Centre on Saturday looking for advice as to how to remove the head from our Stihl whipper snipper. We were met by Cameron, a young guy who seems to know a whole lot about mowers and related equipment. Cameron was helpful, knowledgeable and a great ambassador for the business! We asked about pricing for a new whipper snipper as we are borrowing a family member's and he knew without even having to check.
Cameron is a true asset to the business and we look forward to making our next purchase from Drive In Mower Centre.
There is no over-stating the value of excellent customer service.
We recently visited for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our meals! I had rack of lamb which was absolutely SUPERB!! The meat was melt in the mouth good! The service is always efficient and friendly and the menu is quite diverse with plenty to choose from.
They do cocktails at Vroom as well as offering some pretty decent wines and a good range of beers.
Dessert looked tempting but I was so full that I just had a hot chocolate instead. Divine!!
Parking can be a bit of a hassle at busy times of the day, especially when the retailers are open for trade. But don't let that put you off; Vroom offers excellent value, quality food, friendly service and comfortable seating.
We spent the best part of a day looking around car yards to buy my son a replacement car. Our last port of call was Great Deal Motors where we were greeted by the owner of the business, David Cooper. David pointed us to the one car in his yard that fitted our requirements perfectly. He had listened well to what we needed and what we didn't and told us of an incredible offer that was available. My son went out with David for a test drive and was sold. Not only was the car in prime condition and with extremely low kilometres, but the price was excellent.
Aside from the car itself, David was highly professional and knowledgeable. Even better, he was not pushy, didn't play mind games and treated us with respect from the word go.
David made us feel very comfortable with our purchase and also in general, as it was a hot day and we'd been exhausted throughout the process of visiting all the car yards.
The lot itself features a good number of used cars to inspect, of varying types, ages and price ranges.
We were delighted with the process and with David's genuine approach. We also were quite taken with his gorgeous labrador, Mac!
There is easy parking on Gympie Road and we would highly recommend dropping in when you are next looking for a quality used car.
I've been to the Powerhouse quite a few times. It's an excellent venue which offers quite a range of different performances, not to mention the markets plus various events including panels, workshops and exhibitions.
Parking could be more plentiful, especially pre-performance. Other than that, the staff are all welcoming and there are ample opportunities to eat and drink at a price range to suit your budget.
Different events require different types of rooms, halls or theatres and the Powerhouse seems to have enough variety to accommodate the ever-expanding range of events that happily travel to Brisbane.
We watched the Kashmere Stage Band last night and were impressed with the entire event. First there was a documentary movie shown on the big screen, followed by a live - and very lively - performance by the band itself. The tiered seating made viewing equitable for all audience members and the temperature was comfortable throughout.
As Brisbane residents, we should be very proud that this magnificent building with its colourful heritage has been preserved to provide such a hub of entertainment options.
A girlfriend took me to Alto for my birthday dinner before a performance of Kashmere Stage Band. It was a rainy, gloomy evening but even for a wet Friday night, the bar area was packed and buzzing. The restaurant itself was slightly more sedate.
The wait staff were very helpful and friendly, and were careful to explain the dishes we asked about. My friend had the homemade strozzapreti (a pasta with prawns, squid, tomato and olives) and although she reported that it was delicious, it was a little light on in terms of seafood. I had the pesce in padella - pan-fried market fresh fish, hazelnut mayonese, crushed kipflers, watercress. The fish skin was cooked to perfection, nice and crunchy. The flavour of the fish was delicate and the accompaniments were excellent.
Accompanied by a couple of glasses of wine, it was a very pleasant meal.
The staff are accustomed to asking if diners are going to attend a performance so they can make sure you're out on time.
Approximate cost: $30
Had lunch here and enjoyed an item on the breakfast menu which they serve to 2.30pm. I had two large field mushrooms served with a grainy toast, dill scrambled eggs, roasted tomato compote and cheese. It was delicious and extremely filling, and only $16. I also had a juice and a cappuccino.
Menu prices are excellent, the wait staff are friendly and the food is of great quality.
The interior is a bit stuffy on a rainy day but it is also air conditioned so give it a try. You can sit outside if you prefer.
My friend enjoyed the beef burger which featured a huge beef patty, bacon, cheese and a few other delights. It was served with a salad and sweet potato chips.
Definitely a good place to go for a late brekky or for lunch.
