eclectic decor, busy bustling crowd, good food and if the restaurant's too full, the food they serve at the bar is fantastic (love the mussels). the monday night poetry readings in the bar and great music also go down a treat.
good basic vietnamese food - the rice vermicelli with prawns and spring rolls are definitely a favourite! children are welcome and they provide a fast efficient service and good value for this part of town.
a great place for everything japanese - stationery, kimonos, crockery, chopsticks, antiques, furniture...really worth considering when on the lookout for that unusual gift or even just wrapping and card...even if you're not there to buy, just window shopping there is a treat...

A wonderful range of local and imported pens, from fine italian quills with beautiful silver filigree tips to the most beautiful fountain pens. a great place to find that unusual gift for someone special or just to indulge in yourself...good quality hits you as soon as you walk in the door.
this place is one of the few melbourne icons that hasn't been taken over and "renovated" by the "in-crowd"...the coffee is about the best you'll get in this town, and the pasta great, generous and really fantastic value for money.
even though the weather gets a little chilly in melbourne, it is still wonderful to be able to sit on the footpath of bourke street and be delivered the most beautiful italian food, with excellent wine with which to wash it down and fabulous service that makes you feel like you really are worth it!
walking into this bottleshop is like walking into one of those antique shops that are bursting at the seams with treasures everywhere you look! they have literally crammed every inch of this place with every kind of alcohol imaginable, and it is the only place i know that you can actually purchase a flagon of zubrowka! great for when you're having a party or just when you want to buy yourself something a little different...

I have been going to this restaurant since the 1980s and have yet to be disappointed...the food is simple good clean japanese food - amazing deserts like coffe jelly and green tea icecream or ginger brulee - the best spinach in town and wonderful staff that are always happy to see you.
this place is truly for lovers of fine film, both in the style of the building, the authenticity of the cinemas as well as the outstanding program of films that they put on year after year. definitely for people who love their cinema history and love to see the oldies but goodies on the big screen! oh and their choc tops are the best in town!
