I've started visiting the Medibank Icehouse quite often as I've taken up curling. The venue is quite new and really is state-of-the-art; the ice rinks are better than any others I've visited in Australia over the years. You can go for general ice skating, but there are other winter sports played there such as curling and ice hockey as well.
In terms of cost, the entrance fees are quite high (over $20 for an adult including skate hire) and food and beverages are quite expensive too. That being said, it is a wonderful venue and it will hopefully see lots of people get involved in winter sports and maybe even become future Olympians!
I visited Arabesque with my husband last Friday night. We had a really lovely experience from start to finish. The staff were friendly and attentive (without being overbearing) and the atmosphere was intimate, welcoming and comfortable - we never felt rushed at any point during the meal. We ordered the banquet menu and really enjoyed it. There was so much food! It started with a platter of different dips, tabbouleh and bread, then a mixed platter of entrees. By this point we were already stuffed, but managed to find room for the delicious mains. Moroccon mint tea, turkish coffee and some turkish delight and baklava were the perfect finish to the meal. The prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of the meal. We really enjoyed the whole experience and look forward to coming back in the future!
Approximate cost: $45 per person for the banquet
I brought my dog here soon after I moved to Melbourne when he had a flare up of his skin dermatitis. While I found the reception staff to be very friendly and accommodating, I felt that the vet who examined my dog was vague and uninterested. I found that I had to repeat myself several times in order to get some kind of acknowledgement from the vet when I tried to explain my dog's medical history. At the end of the day, I got the medication my dog required and he is now fine. I just prefer a vet who is chatty and talks to me about what is going on and shows a bit more interest in my pet (who was really distressed about both the flare up and being at the vet) especially considering that this was the first time they'd seen my dog.
I've started visiting the Bakery at Copper Cafe regularly since I started working in Ormond. I really like the coffee and the croissants are fresh and buttery, really yummy! I also love their artisan breads; they are baked fresh daily and there are some interesting varieties. They also do pies and salads and cakes. A really nice little local cafe.
I've been doing market research and product testing with Colmar Brunton/Your Source for many years. After recently moving to Melbourne, I was recruited for my first product test in the Melbourne office this week. The office is modern and really easy to find in the Chadstone Shopping Centre. Product testing is fun and the rewards for participants are always really generous. The staff were also friendly and helpful. Participating in the research is also a great way to help shape the products that companies make and get your opinions heard. Your Source is a really professional organisation and I can't wait for my next product test!
Approximate cost: $Free - they pay you!
I first found blackMILK candles on sale at the Arts Centre markets last year. The quality and the fragrance of the candles was absolutely DIVINE! I was so impressed that I contacted Fiona to organise candles for my wedding bomboniere. Fiona was so professional and an absolute delight to deal with. She sent me fragrance samples (because I was living interstate and couldn't get to the markets to try the fragrances) and organised the candles so quickly, they were perfect and looked and smelled wonderful. I'm still getting compliments from our wedding guests about how great they were. They were also really well priced and I was so happy with the results. I will keep buying blackMILK candles for my own personal use. Highly recommended!
I found Cafe Blah Blah to be pretty average and a little uninspiring. The menu is all over the place and they don't seem to know which direction they want to head in (whether it be cafe food or Asian food, or whatever.) My meal came out lukewarm and it tasted just OK. We had a large group and there were mixed comments about the food, some happy and others unimpressed. The service is a bit slow, there was quite a bit of time between ordering and getting our meals. The decor is nice but it's pretty dark right up the back where we were sitting. I don't think I'll be rushing to go there again.
When my husband and I first met Peter and Emily from Living Lens, we knew they were exactly what we were looking for in wedding videographers. They knew exactly what kind of expectations we had for our video (and when I watched our video after the wedding, I felt that they well exceeded them!) They have great technical knowledge about video and sound recording and editing, and the quality of and detail they put into our video blew me away. Throughout the entire process they communicated well with us and on our wedding day they were prompt and professional. They also worked well with our wedding photographers.
If you want a modern, timeless, high quality wedding video then I can't begin to recommend Living Lens enough!!!
I had Sophisticakes make my wedding cake for my wedding in January 2011. Barbara from Sophisticakes is an absolute angel to deal with, and she makes the most divine cupcakes you've ever tasted! She set everything up at the venue on the day, and the tier of cupcakes with the cutting cake on top looked absolutely stunning! They tasted even better than they looked and everybody who tried them has been raving about them ever since. The cost of the cakes + delivery and setup was really competitive too. I can't wait to find my next excuse to buy some more!!!
It has been a tradition with me, my dad and my family to buy a couple of chickens every Friday night from here for years. We absolutely love their charcoal chickens! They're always moist and succulent and the stuffing is delicious too. They taste good when they're fresh and hot, and even better as leftovers the next day. The chips are delicious and generally don't last the car ride home. Now that I live in Melbourne, I make my dad take me there as soon as he has picked me up from the airport when I go to visit. I have yet to find a place in Melbourne that makes charcoal chicken that tastes as good as these do!
