Bento boxes are the best here! Pop chicken has always been my favourite. They are in an area of South Melbourne where there isn't a lot of choice, but they more than make up for it. Inside seating can be a bit on the cramped side but the food is so good - and cheap! - that you really don't mind.
Even as I type this review I can feel my arteries hardening just at the thought of these dim sims, but I'm ok with that because they are just so yummy! And HUGE! South Melbourne Markets are a great place to shop anyway, but with these dim sims there, its an AWESOME place to shop!
The shop itself is chock-full of old cathode ray TV's - I think its his specialty, so God only knows how he makes his living now - but if you have a cathode ray TV that needs fixing, or a VCR, microwave, DVD player etc, then this guy is the guy to go to. The price is reasonable enough too.
Decent pub but nothing special other than its been around forever and a day. Interior is nice enough. Prices are ok - not cheap but not outrageous either. Not a lot else going on for it to be honest.
A long time ago I had my 25th birthday lunch here with just my fiancé and I, and its still the best birthday I have ever had. The food was exquisite, the service perfect, the venue amazing, and for something unusual - because the old Catalina sea-plane was right there and we thought "why the hell not?" - we took off on a 15 minute plan ride over the most beautiful harbour in the world (as an ex-sailor I say this with confidence). Then, upon landing, our dessert was right there waiting for us. You cant get a better experience than that!
This time around we didn't quite go to such extremes but the food was still brilliant, as was the service. The venue is simply stunning still - age has not wearied this restaurant.
The food upstairs is always above-par - having it on the balcony is an added bonus as you can take in the fresh harbour breeze (and the traffic fumes from Cowper Wharf Road, which is close enough to it). Downstairs at ground level the bar is a functional area - plenty of seating and all the usual things that are found in a normal bar. The clientele can at times look pretty seedy but my experiences there have proven that looks can be deceiving - everyone that goes to Friscos does so to have a great time. Two-up on Anzac Day is a must!
Wow what a difference a decade makes! It had been that long since I set foot in the Old Fitzroy, and back then, whilst it was a good and decent pub, it was very eccentric and looked like it was struggling to find its identity, if that isn't a stupid thing to say about an establishment.
How times change. The Fitzroy is now updated itself into a modern, funky yet paying-homage-to-its-past bar with a theatre attached for added benefit.
The staff behind the bar are overwhelmingly friendly and efficient. I could've stayed there for ages just soaking up the atmosphere of this glorious old pub.
Excellent Irish pub with live music and great atmosphere. Always a must when I'm travelling to Sydney and staying over the weekend. Its proximity to the Rocks Markets makes it an ideal place for me to enjoy a pint (yes, a pint. In NSW. Go figure) whilst the wife indulges her shopping addiction. Have never eaten here so cant honestly tell you what the food is like. Having seen several dishes being served however I can tell you that the portion sizes are very decent indeed.
The old Wooly Bay is starting to look pretty dated but its still a favourite amongst the locals - including the sailors from the Royal Australian Navy who frequent it often. The Sunday afternoon sessions are still the best! The food is slightly better-than-average pub fare - its not going to win any awards but it will fill you up and it does taste good. Offers several bars inside so you'll always be able to be served somewhere in there.
Cant say I've ever eaten here - the Observer (or the Obby, if you're in the know) served one function only for me, and that was as a drinking establishment. Upon my most recent trip to Sydney I returned to have another beer here and was pleased to see that it was pretty much as it was all those years ago when I used to frequent it. There's plenty of sitting space and the bar staff are efficient. A good old fashioned pub with a good atmosphere and an excellent place to kick start a Saturday or Sunday afternoon drinking session!
