I travel from Castlemaine and the staff are friendly and helpful. The train is comfortable and on time and great way to get to Melbourne or Bendigo without the hassle of traffic. The train platforms and waiting rooms are clean.
As everyone else is saying, the tickets are ridiculously expensive. The service isn't worth the money. Especially for those of us without concessions. We'd rather drive to Melbourne.
I think their fares are way overpriced. It's like we are being punished for not living in Melbourne. It's fine if you're a concession card holder, but for the rest of us it's worth it to drive to Melbourne and back rather than save the meager amount we would if we travelled with them.
v-line bendigo is quite good. the staff are always nice and they have a good number of services running daily.

Peak hour tickets are expensive but the normal ones aren't to bad - you get a discount if you have a concession card which always helps.
The service of vline is horrible, they always seem to be running late or cancelling there trains, the amount of money they have spent on renewing rail ways and trains is ridiculous considering they are forever cancelling there trains and making people catch buses to get to there destinations.
vline seem to be always running late or canceling services. i think the amount of money they spent on new trains was a waste considering they have to stop when it gets hot. very disappointing.
I have always found the Vline people to be cheerful and happy to help if they can.
The train's have been on time when I have been travelling with them. The service from Bendigo to Melbourne is so fast and the trip enjoyable.
The trains have been clean when I have been on them during the day but can be a little scruffy by the end of the day.

You can take your pets in an approved container, check out the website before you book, Guide dog's/pup's in training are aloud all of the time.
There is online Booking's for Bus and Train's to go all over the place.
If your thinking of going to Melb it's cheaper than taking your car but its a good thing if you try and miss peek hour
