FAQs

When was your business founded?

January 2025

What guarantees or warranties do you offer, if any?

If you're not happy with the sharpening, I'll re-sharpen the knife for free.

What is your level of experience in this line of work?

15 years working as a chef, during which I sharpened my own knives and the kitchen's knives the entire time. That professional kitchen experience is what led to starting The Edge Alchemist.

What certifications, qualifications or awards has your business received?

No formal certifications my skills come from years of hands-on practice and understanding exactly what a knife needs to perform in a professional kitchen setting, not just in theory.

What is your fee structure like? Fixed fees? Hourly rates?

Flat rate pricing $12 per knife for standard sharpening. Repairs and reprofiling are quoted separately depending on the condition of the blade.

What are your current prices (fixed and variable)?

$12 flat rate per knife for standard sharpening, scissors, and garden tools. Repairs, reprofiling, or badly damaged blades are quoted individually once I've assessed the knife.

Are you a member of any professional / industry associations?

Not currently, but I'm open to joining one as the business grows.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

I really enjoy making knives sharp there's something satisfying about turning a dull, worn blade back into something that performs properly again.

What are your payment terms and conditions? Do you offer payment plans? Afterpay? Interest-free terms?

Payment is due on completion of the job. I accept card, bank transfer, and cash. No payment plans or Afterpay currently offered.

What makes you unique compared to your competitors?

I come to you no dropping knives off and waiting days to get them back. With 15 years of chef experience, I understand exactly what a knife needs to perform properly in a real kitchen, not just how to put an edge on it. I use a professional wet belt sharpening system that removes the minimum amount of steel needed, so blades stay sharper for longer. Servicing Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast with flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and full weekend availability.

What insurance do you hold, and what value are you covered for?

I currently hold public liability insurance covering $5 million.

How quickly can work be completed? What are your turnaround times? Do you offer same-day service?

Most knives are sharpened on the spot during the visit, usually just a few minutes each. Bookings are often available same-day or within a day or two, thanks to extended hours across early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Do you have a favourite client story you'd like to share?

A customer's knife once fell off the work bench and the tip snapped clean off. I was able to salvage the blade reprofiling and resharpening it back into shape and the customer said it ended up the sharpest it had ever been.

Do you have any special offers? Do you offer any bulk or volume discounts?

10% off your first booking.
