Thai Pothong Restaurant & Gift Shop

We visited this Restaurant this past friday and the food was FANTASTIC! Everything we had was amazing, the Thai BBQ pork, chicken Panang, Cashew nut stirfry, spring rolls were excellent. This was my first time here, and we will be back again! The service was very good as well.
I highly recommend this restaurant!

This restaurant is my favourite Thai one in Newtown!! The decor is probably the best I have ever seen; so intricate and beautiful. The caterers are so kind and the service is fast. The food is absolutely amazing!! Cannot recommend this place enough.

I have to say that an entree of spring rolls and a coconut soup was filling enough for me. The servings are decent here and you will find the pricing is fair too. My gripe is parking as Newtown gets quite packed and lacks big car parks but is good for public transport and this place is conveniently located on the very main road.

The food here is great however I don’t think it’s great value. The service is good and quick but I find there are better Thai places in Newtown

Thai fish cakes, baby octopus, coconut soup and spring rolls are all very nice choices which I enjoyed. Very very reasonably priced mains at $14 and such a nice ambience to the place too.

The giant statue of Optimus Prime in near the door will keep little ones (one some bigger ones) hypnotised for a while but it's not idea for kids.

Me and my wife went to this place for our wedding anniversary. I must say that their food and service were just fucking awesome!!! I wish it was a little cheaper, but the value for the food was still great! We would love to go there again even for casual occasions! Highly recommended.

Not only is the food unique and mind blowingly good but its like a palace lol.

Thai Pothong is my favourite Thai restaurant in Newtown. Thai Pothong is quite a large restaurant and it gets so busy so it is best to book a table in advance. Great food and great atmosphere make Thai Pothong a top notch restaurant.

Thai Pothong is the best Thai restaurant in Newtown, the food is really fresh and delicious. The place gets really busy, so you are best to book ahead. I love the Thai Green curry there.

My colleagues and I often come here for a quick bite to each at lunch time. My favorite is the Thai green curry. We all believe they are the best Thai in town.

We had a reservation and came in very surprised with the grand and huge sittings. A little noisy, but excellent customer service and very friendly staff. I would give 10 stars if possible, greatly recommended, one of the best dishes include the duck red curry, and prawn on leaves!

One of the best Thai restaurants in Sydney. I have been going to Thai Po Thong for the last 15 years and they have always maintained their great quality and service. The BBQ Pork is amazing!

Expensive yes, worth it YES! Always really busy here a massive turnover. This is the best thai in Newtown in my mind. I used to live the one at the bank hotel. But the food is so fresh and the service is excellent!

When I think of great Thai Food, I always think of Thai Pothong. The food is always unbeatable, flavours are great, and I always leave wanting to come back ASAP! There papaya prawn salad is a must, as well as there prawn tom yum soup! Also love there chicken and cashew nut too! Very well priced and portion size is extremely generous! Everyone really needs to vist here!

Thai Pothong in newtown is one of my favourite thai restaurant.
The staff are always fantastic, even when it's busy and will always give a little extra to the birthday guy/gal.
For dessert I recommend the Black Sticky rice, it really nice. a little bit expensive but will surely go back. probably one of the best meals that we had in a long time.

Best service in newtown. You never wait for very long for food and there is always someone filling your drinks or serving you more rice. the pad ki mao dish is the best :)

One of my favorite Thai restaurant. Perfect place to celebrate Birthdays. The staffs are super nice , the place is a bit noisy bcoz it is crowded. When u celebrate ur bday there,they will put ballons in your table.They will take picture of u and post it on their website and send it to your email. at the end, when paying, if u pay by cash they will give u 10% of your bill in Thai pothong dollar so u can use it in their gift shop or 5% if u r paying by card. There are plenty of beautiful things in the gift shops all come from Thailand. If u never been here.... then u r missing out one of the best place in Sydney

My family and I usually come here for some family events or gatherings.

It's nice and close to home and reasonably priced for what you get. We always get the banquet and there's more than enough food for everyone and there's always leftovers!

My kid nieces love looking in their gift shop. You can pick up a few cheap things that make pretty presents.

The service here is generally good... I've only had one bad experience with a waiter who wasn't very polite and kept stuffing up our drink orders.

Newtown is thai town. Thai potong is not your average thai takeaway place. It just a little fancy but a whole lot of yummy. It is a very big restaurant and can get crowded on a weekend. Everything looked so good it was hard to decide what to order so will be going back again to try to get through the whole menu. At the end of your meal you get some "gift shop money" which you can wander over and buy a small souveniour.

I have been here a few times now. Their deep fried Snapper is to die for. Great service and food. Close to Newtown Train Station.

Thai is my best love, and they are doing a fantastic job there. went there a few times with my mates. all of us just cant stop eating. good food, great services.

Great food and fantastic atmosphere. I've been to Thailand numerous times and this restaurant has some of the most authentic thai food around. The restaurant itself looks like its straight out of Bangkok too.
