The salmon was so fresh! We came in at 9:39 so the store was closing, but they still let us in and apologised for no hot foods. We still enjoyed the sushi and they even gave us two steamed eggs so we could at least have some hot foods. Best service!

I'm a massive fan of the original at Lt Collins Street so it was to my great suprise a branch opened on Lonsdale Street so of course it was a must try. I thought it would be great if I didnt have to book days in advance or wait out the door and this was true when I arrived. There were a small group to a table and no one else. Not sure at first whether I should be worried I tried it out anyway. Food was good, had similar items to the original if not some extras. Anything you are wanting from the original store is still there on the menu and can be ordered, they may just not have been rotating around the night we were there. I ordered a cocktail as well. Pleasant experience, staff were attentive (though we were at most one of three groups dining). The size of the venue was good, not as cramped as the other branch. Most plates were almost all to the more expensive side though my fancy favourites were all available, Scampi, Uni and Toro. While the food was all great and not much to fault on, in some way it still seemed inferior to their Lt Collins branch in quality. Though without the 45min table wait it could be an ok exchange. The one main downer of the experience was a Japanese Donut listed under the dessert menu. Having experienced donuts in Japan I was quite excited, then out came two tiny cinnamon looking things in a small bowl. My husband took a bite and promptly spat it back out, sculling his beer. Knowing he's not much of a sweet fan I thought he was exaggerating and took a tiny bite tentatively. It was disgusting, it was stale, tasted 5 months old and like I just put moth ridden flour directly into my mouth. My husband gave the bowl back to them instantly. The confused waiter carried it into the kitchen and didn't say a word. We left shortly after and sincerely hope that 'plate' wasn't added to our bill. Avoid at all cost!

Approximate cost: $6
