This review is on a quote call only.
I have a friend who repairs windscreens, but who is away on holiday for another month. I have watched him do windscreen repairs.
I rang O'Briens the other day and asked for a quote on getting three small chips repaired. The girl on the phone told me that they cannot legally repair chips that are within a driver's field of vision, because they may be a distraction. I explained they are tiny chips and far smaller than water drops, dead bugs or bird droppings and I want to know how much for a repair. She finally gave me a quote of $300 and again tried to push me to get a new windscreen for $410.
I called my friend who said that is crazy, no one should be charging above $90 for three small chips. He recommended I go to Supercheap Auto and buy a windscreen repair kit. I got one for $35 and my chips are fixed.
Approximate cost: $300
Friday night found rear passenger window smashed and had to drive interstate on Saturday. After calls to police and insurance and O'Briens I was able to take the car into O'Briens first thing Saturday morning. They responded quickly, replaced the window and I was gone within an hour. They were polite and professional with no delays at all.
I hate it when people use fuzzy 'legalities' in order to charge more.
