Nirvana is ugly from the outside, and although my Dad has lived in Darwin on and off for many years, we've avoided going to eat here because it's not super inviting. But people keep recommending it, and there weren't many places open when we wanted to eat late-ish. So we came by.
Inside, it is lovely. Although it serves thai, indian and some other cuisine, the decor is not asian inspired.
It seems quite fashionable in Darwin to serve more than one style of cuisine. This makes me nervous - I get afraid that the chef will be forced to become jack of all trades, master of none.
But the food was really good, the cocktails were nice (or should I say cocktails - I only had one) and the atmosphere in a little booth with soft lighting, was great. It might have been better for a date night though!!
The salmon was a bit sweet and sticky, but the entrees were great and dad loved his seafood as usual.
Had a great banquet here. The food was great and got to taste a variety of dishes. Love the cocktails! Not too pricey for Darwin. In a great location. I love the decor. Looks nothing like you would expect from the outside. They have live music Tuesday and Thursday- it's worth visiting just for a cocktail.
A really eclectic place. The indian food is particularly wonderful. They do take away too. The staff are always friendly - very typical of Darwin
a little more expensive than i am used to but the food was sensational. love the combination of thai, malay and indian food. best with a group of people ordering a variety of dishes so you get to sample a few.
