I’m writing this on behalf of my elderly mother who took her 2019 Honda Jazz to MotorVision Toowoomba on the 10th April, 2025, due to the reverse camera not working. She was charged $88 for ‘diagnostics’, yet the technician failed to perform the most basic check—a simple Factory Data Reset, clearly outlined in the owner’s manual.
I discovered and fixed the issue myself in under 5 minutes by following the manual and pressing a few buttons.
Despite this, MotorVision quoted her $1,648 to “fix” the issue, including:
*A Kenwood receiver with Apple CarPlay
*Facia panel, trim surround
*“Sterring” wheel control interface (their spelling)
*Honda reverse camera harness & antenna adaptor
*$250 installation
When I questioned this today over the phone, speaking to the owner directly, the owner said, “Well how were we to know that?” If your business claims “decades of experience” and advertises expertise in sound and navigation systems, then a basic software reset should have been one of the very first things you tried—not overlooked entirely.
This kind of quote could easily mislead vulnerable customers. My mum is a pensioner who trusted that she was being given honest advice. Had I not stepped in, she might have paid over $1,600 for a fix that she could not afford and was completely unnecessary
Disappointed is an understatement. I expected better.
I’ve attached photos of the $88 invoice, the $1,648 quote, and the relevant page from the official Honda manual showing how to fix the issue in under 5 minutes — something their 'engineer' supposedly spent 4 hours 'diagnosing'.
