Great food, huge portions need to share, love the American smoked ribs with a cold beer. Massive delicious schnitzels and nice service. Sauces are not blant.

Maxy's always has fantastic staff on board. They are very friendly and attentive. Their serving sizes are enormous, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. I always go here for a nice meal with friends.

Calamari was awesome. The first time I went, there were 3 of us and we got a meal each. They came out on platters. One meal would have been well and truly enough. We shouldve taken the hint from the name.
Nice calamari, pretty good for the other food as well though I always tend to go for the Calamari. Excellent value for sure
They seem to have varied the meals adding salads, but still certainly enough for one, most probably best shared with another person.
Definitely adds to the value for what you get. If you like that kind of food, definitely give it a go !!

Sonia is by far my favourite waitress there. The food is good quality and for what you pay you certainly get more than you would expect! Very filling meals and very friendly atmosphere.

Maxy's is a king size cafe serving king size dishes for very reasonable prices. The food is OK living up to the restaurant name with one serve being about enough for two people! A great place to take hungry teenagers

Massive meals, reasonable prices, great for functions. Even when they were almost booked out, they found a place for us to sit.

I've been eating at Maxy's since they were in Chapel St, nearly 2 decades ago. Followed them to Kooyong Rd and on to Elsternwick. I'm a vego and they do the BEST felafel platter in town. We are always served really quickly and the staff have always been friendly. I'm planning to hold a 50th birthday there later in the year because we are happy with everything. I've never had room for desert so cannot comment on that. Every person close to me has been there with me and not one has complained, except maybe that the quantity served was too large. I did warn them that Maxy's serves are really GENEROUS. Well that beats those stingy places that leave you hungry or those that charge an extra $4.95 for vegetables. The felafel platter is $35.00 and it is hard for 2 hungry adults to finish it all. So well done and thank you Maxy's.

Good service. Platters are huge and delish especially the pita and dips. Shnitzel is avg but ok value if you order the bigger one. Cheap fruit juices which are nice. On one occasion I was served something that wasnt right but still charged even after complaining but this was definitely a once off. It's really nice for get togethers there are heaps of tables and room. The meals are served pretty fast too. Good location right near elsternwick station and good opening hours.

Used to love this place for excellent lasagna. However last week lasagna sheets were raw! Waitress not friendly and were left waiting for the bill forever (with empty restaurant)
will not go back for sure!

Never happened to me and I've been eating at Maxy's for more than 20 years. Perhaps you were unlucky? Kind regards Barbara. And no I have no vested interest in Maxy's other than they do the best felafel in Melbourne.

Anonymous 26 Nov 2009

I recently went to Maxy's with a large group (approximately 30 people) for dinner. We had a booking for 7.30pm, we didn't receive menu's until 9.00pm when we were told very rudely by the waiter/manager that as the kitchen couldn't cater for such a large number of a la carte meals we had to share the meat platters. None of this was advised when making the booking. Quite a number of our group had specific dietary requirements and when advising the waiter of this we were informed that "oh well, order what you want then, but I don't know what time you're gonna get it". The restaurant was not even half full!
As by this stage we were quite hungry - and not wanting to wait much longer I ordered the trio of dips with extra pita bread. What arrived (an hour later) was three separate piles of the same dip and no extra bread!
Half of our group had already left by then - without any dinner.
Will never be visiting this restaurant again.

Hi, I've been eating at Maxy's for at least 20 years. They began in Chapel St, Prahran don't know what year. They moved to Kooyong Rd Caulfield, don't know what year and then to Elsternwick. I can't say one bad thing about them. I've never had a bad experience. I don't know who the owner is or even if it is the same one since Chapel St, all I know is they have really nice food, large servings at a great price, for what you get. I'm a vego and they make the BEST felafel in Melbourne. All my friends now go there since I took them and we all love it. We wouldn't go back if we had your experience, so I do understand. Just wanted you to know it's all been good for us. Everytime in everyway. Kind regards Barbara

I've only been here once for dessert on the way home. The place was pretty empty but the service was very slack. Had a sticky date pudding that certainly wasn't amongst the best I've had. The whole place is pretty tacky - reminds me of something out of the 80's (don't think the interior has been updated since then!). I think people go there for the big serves, haven't tried the mains so I can't comment on the quality.

The biggest plates you've ever seen

The biggest plates you've ever seen

One of the funniest experiences is watching people visit Maxy's for the first time. They don't realise (nor do management inform them) that it's physically impossible for 1 person to finish a main course so they sit there with huge plates of food on their table trying to get through it all.

The main courses are around $28 but you can easily share that between 2. This place is great for larger groups (e.g. birthday get togethers) because you can order a couple of Mixed Grill platters and it will feed an army. The ribs are fantastic and the chicken schnitzel and calamari come in vast quantities. Ask for the mushroom sauce on your schnitzel. Not sure who Maxy is...
