This is a great cafe for coffee and food when in Hawthorne. There is a playground and large park near by and an oval is opposite Joan's Pantry. The cafe has been rebuilt a few years ago and is very comfortable for a meal or just coffee. A nice selection of food here too for those who have been out and about walking. Well worth a visit.
Enjoyed a walk in Apex a few days ago and then visited this pleasant cafe. It has now been renovatd/rebuilt for a couple of years and it is a great spot for a bit of relaxation and a coffee. Good for all the parents of the junior sports participents on the oval across the road
After going for a walk along the creek by Apex Park my wife and I enjoyed a coffee here. Many others had the same thought and so the cafe was busy. However our coffee arrived in good time and we both enjoyed the coffee and ambience.
While out with one of my friends, we stopped at Joan's Pantry for lunch. It has a great reputation that is well-deserved and we enjoyed pies and cakes while looking across at the park. It's certainly very popular!
Really enjoy having a coffee here. Since the renovations it has been a great place to relax on a nice sunny day. As it is opposite an oval and next to to the Apex Park and playground it is so convenient to have a coffee fix while grandchildren are enjoying themselves in the outdoors. Nice food to accompany your coffee too. Restrooms are here too.
We always enjoy a coffee at Joan's, very nice staff
Mmm... Pulled Pork and Mushroom stack.
In the middle of pretty much nowhere, sits this picturesque cafe.
Think Hansel and Gretel. It's this house in the middle of the woods.
Perfect for a nice relaxing breakfast at ANY TIME OF THE DAY!
Yes you read that right, they do breakfast ALL DAY!

Lovely and spacious inside since the recent renovations and great views across to the oval, next to a playground, BMX berms and lovely walks. What more do you need? Good selection of choices on menu (breakfast until 3pm) including home made soup and tasty wraps. All of this can be enjoyed with a coffee or glass of wine. Might be a problem finding a park on a weekend due to its popularity and location.
Our grandson was playing cricket on Hawthorndene Oval this morning so the temptation of visiting Joan's Pantry could not be resisted. Great takeaway coffee and a chocolate chip biscuits made a good morning tea. Interesting spot to visit for more than morning tea too.
Coffee and breakfast at Joans is really delicious, need to go more often
Joans Pantry is in such a relaxing location, with eating areas both in and outside it makes a great place to stop for a meal. My girlfriend and I have enjoyed a few meals and coffee here, always a pleasant experience. The staff a quite friendly, always smiling. Their breafast really is something to try, always great coffee and love their hot chips.
Nice and secluded in the maze of roads that make up Hawthorndene. But if you can find it, you won't be disappointed.
It's good if you want to bring your kids here as well as there's a nice playground opposite. So you can have a break, while they go have some outdoorsy fun
The iconic Joan's Pantry has reopened recently after having a major rebuild. There are now toilet facilities available which is great for the young and older. We came to have a look and enjoyed a nice coffee now that the cool change has arrived. Very well set out and is much better than the very old building. Friendly staff and there is a changing breakfast and lunch menu. Being close the the playground and tennis courts is a bonus too.
While out and about I popped in here for a cup of hot chocolate. The chocolate was warming and the inside area was nice and warm. Lots of nice goodies to eat there too. The parking is easy and a friendly atmosphere. In summer time it is lovely to sit out under the trees too.
This cafe is in a lovely spot in Hawthorndene in amongst trees. There is new management here and they have plans to enclose the outdoor area in winter so that it is warmer. Of course you can also sit inside. The coffee is good and so are the light meals and snacks. Was well worth our repeat visit.
Sounds like a beautiful place to try.
This is a popular coffee and lunch place. Inside and outside seating and dogs allowed outside while sitting under shady trees. No pressure to depart which is good. Toilets in adjacent park. Also a playground there.
Approximate cost: $4.00
Good little spot in an extremely good position right next to apex park. We drive a distance to go to this park for the kids (large, fully fenced and toliets). I have been there a few times now. Not a large place - can get very busy at times. Lovely seating outside in the summer months.
I've been coming here since I was little. It is such a lovely place with a country feel to it. Great location especially if you have got kids with the playground, bike track, oval and creek that is filled with tadpoles!
Busy place, especially on a Sunday morning. Great place for breakfast. Food is scrumptious, service is good and it has a really relaxed atmosphere. A lot of homemade goods.
It is really nice having eggs and bacon in the morning. The area is so peacefull and can go for a walk along the river afterwards.
Approximate cost: $9.00
Right next to a big playground, this small quaint cafe is a nice little spot to have a light lunch or a coffee. The range of sweet pastries is great and the coffee is very good. Not a lot of seating available so it can get crowded sometimes.
A quaint little cafe that is a little out the way but worth driving to. It has an indoor and outdoor dining area. Food is great and the service is lovely. In a beautiful location near parks and a playground.
Joan's Pantry is very well placed near the children's playground as its great to be able to get your very tasty coffee and if need be take away food to have while the children play. You can sit in a nice dining area and have a meal or on a lovelly day sit under the trees where tables are placed.
