A pretty good place if you want a cheap dinner and drinks before going elsewhere - or if you're a bit drunk and grabbing something to eat afterwards! The tables and floor are often... a bit messy.
Felt a bit dated and crowded last I was there but plenty of great beers and central location make it very worthwhile. Mixed drinks are good but at expensive Melbourne prices
I love Cookie. It is one of the few modern asian eateries in melbourne that has good atmosphere, good service and delicious menu with lots of choice, sufficient to please even the most fussiest diners. On top of that, the price point represents very good value. A large plate of Fat Rice Noodles with Duck, Cabbage, Green Peppercorns and Basil for $22.50 was our choice for the day, and it contained a good amount of tender flavoursome duck etc. No scrimping there at all. The only time when I would recommend against going to Cookie, would be Friday night. On occasions when i have visited on a friday night, the place seems to have been half transformed into a very very loud dance bar minus the dancing.
The floors are sticky, the tables are sticky. The service is horrible- 1/5. The food does taste okay - 3/5 but not the best value 1/5. So many places in the city this place is on the bottom of my list.
Good place if you want to go somewhere to get revved up before going out dancing or such. Great drinks menu, heaps to choose from and such a wide range of beers, wines, and cocktails that you spend half the time just deciding what to have. This place was a bit loud for us, so not the best for lots of conversation, but the decor was nice and in a great location
Approximate cost: $15-30
I love the decor of this place and would love to see it during daylight hours. I suspect it would be even better. Lovely apple martini's and are somewhat strong too which is perfect since most I find are almost always watered down! Friendly and playful staff at hand too.
This place is awesome. Can you get any cooler than this?? The food here is amazing, asain flavours are just delicious. And excellent range of cocktails. Go the expresso martini!!
Cookie rocks! We've been there for drinks a few times but it was when we had dinner there that we were really impressed. The menu is gorgeous (think Asian fusion) and the service is good. It gets mega busy so you definitely need to book. If it's a romantic dinner for two, I'd highly recommend booking one of the tables on the little balconies.
Approximate cost: $25-30
Such an amazing place! The atmosphere is brilliant, the feng shui and decor are spot on, and it gets packed after work when every one wants a great cocktail or a glass of wine after a long day.
It's so central to Melbourne that it's an easy place to visit. And the bar staff are all friendly and attractive. Haha.
I definitely recommend going to Cookie if you're visiting Melbourne and don't know where to grab a drink.
I had a lot of fun at Cookie for after work drinks and the food is delish! I like the drink menu and the variety it has to offer. It is affordable and you can have a nice night out.
Approximate cost: $50
What i can say about this place - Its well-designed... great ambience .. atmosphere .. Its unique! Its a great place for people to hang out and dine-in. Info: make reservation if you want to dine-in, because it gets really busy.
About their food - is delicious.. (Pork skewers and Lamb curry - Yummy). The staff were knowledgable ... Happy with their service. On the other hand, its a bit pricey ..
Definitely my go-to place when i want a good cocktail in Melbourne :) I usually make a b-line to the back bar as it's away from the main area, less crowded and can chat to your mates without yelling over the top of the crowd.
You can also enjoy a bit of a show while the friendly bar staff make the cocktails in front of you - they aim to please.
Nice review.
thanks for the tip on the back bar, will need to try going there next time to avoid the noisy crowds!
By far the best cocktail bar in Melbourne. The restaurant also does some amazing Thai food and I recommend the Chicken hot pot.
Love the lay out of this bar, it can get incredibly crowded though! If you want a good seat, you have to get in early!
Approximate cost: $14
I've been to Cookie a couple of times, each time hoping that I wouldn't be underwhelmed again because I keep being told that it's a good place to go (by people who really should be in the know, but clearly aren't), and each time I find that all I've done is set myself up disappointment. It's loud and crowded - the layout isn't great. The staff couldn't be bothered. The prices are on the wrong side of expensive. If I had to sum it up in 4 words, I'd say "try-hard and ordinary".
Crowded place, food isn't great and staff seem rude and arrogant. Try the next bars up up the stairs.
I took my overseas visitors here. They can afford to eat in any restaurant in the world, so I was hoping to impress. I think they liked it, although it was very, very noisy so it was hard to have a discussion.
We were a party of eight. It would have been nice to have been seated on the balcony, but space was at a premium.
The kids with us enjoyed the ribs. Outta this world. The rest of the food was a bit uneven. We enjoyed most of it, but a few dishes were ordinary.
The array of cocktails is to be seen to be believed.
I'd recommend this place as an interesting experience. Don't go there for an intimate dinner.
Approximate cost: $25
Would love to try the ribs, sounds delicious
To be honest I wasn't at all impressed by the food or the staff. It also gets too noisy and crowded. Food can be pricey for what you get.
But they do make good cocktails, which earns them brownie points.
Approximate cost: $20
The dishes a really tasty but some you really wonder how they price them as they can be expensive. Because it is popular it can get noisy. You need to book in advance to get a good table.
The waiters got our booking wrong and thus we ended up in a squishy corner, but they made sure we were looked after then. Service was a little slow but they offered great advice about what was suitable in terms of how hot particular curries were and what wines were nice. The Thai food was delicious.
Approximate cost: $20-30
Great location on Swanston Street, Cookie is a great place for cocktails. If you can get a seat on the balcony is nice to sit and watch the world go by. I've had a few of the bar snacks which are yummy, and they have an extensice cocktail list, all of which are good. the interior is fun and kistch. Overall a nice spot. Does get busy at the weekends though, and the crowd can be a bit young.
the other member is correct this place does get a bit packed on a friday so get there early! they have a great selection of beers here and the staff are real pros, good central location for a meet up for drinks any night of the week
Good place to go for drinks after work ... centrally located. Food was ok but I thought it was reasonably expensive for what you get.
Friday night's get pretty packed so you need to get there early.
A great place to go for drinks after work. Great cocktails! I highly recommend the outside patio table on a warm summer day. I haven't eaten in the restaurant.
A great place to meet for drinks after work. I havent eaten there but the champagne cocktails are great!
Approximate cost: $0
Funky, hidden gem
I've been here a couple of times - for drinks with friends and for lunches with some work mates
Approximate cost: $20
