Alert Dog Training

I had an amazing trainer who was very knowledgeable, highly experienced and friendly. Our dog Willow was non compliant to put it nicely, extremely reactive towards any other humans or animals. By the end of the training, she was able to lie in a field without anyone there for extended periods of time without reacting to anything and without moving from her stay. She has been able to go for group dog walks, we have also been able to walk her outside of home and enjoy our time with her more. Without the help of Dale this would not be even close to possible. This was my first time acquiring dog training. It was for my 8 month old Lab/Shar Pei who had completely taken run of my small unit. He was jumping on the couch, bed and people and constantly nipping and running away from me. After the very first session Jax was a different dog. He is only 14 months old and he still has some maturing to do, but he has become a calm obedient dog who is very manageable and very happy. The most important thing I learnt when completing our training wasn't just the skills I learnt but the philosophy and dog psychology behind those skills. I learnt why he was behaving the way he was and what I needed to do to meet his needs as a dog. It completely changed my idea of what it was to be a dog owner. I recommend Alert Dog Training to anyone who owns a dog. From basic training to behavior difficulties.

I had tried a number of different dog trainers to teach my 4 year old Border Collie Jasper some manners. He is a very active, easily distracted dog that does not like other dogs very much despite plenty of socialisation. Del did a fantastic job, listening to my concerns and teaching me very helpful strategies. Jasper now has a much stronger focus on me as his handler, shows much improved recall, even when he spots dogs or people in the park, and behaves himself when visitors come. We recently took him with us on a mini-break, which was unthinkable previously. I recommend Del highly, he will help you understand your dog!

A few months ago I used to drive Moby our two year old German Short Haired Pointer the 500 metres to the local park, because he was just about impossible to walk. After seven lessons with Del from Alert Dog Training, he now walks at heal, sits on command (well most of the time) and drops when told to. He even walks at heal without a lead! He stays in position, even when I go out of view behind a tree 200 metres from where I left him, he'll then come instantly on command. If you had told me this would be the result of Del's dog training, I wouldn't have believed you, Moby is like a new dog. The only thing holding Moby back now is his sometimes incompetent owner :). I think a big confirmation of Alert Dog Training's techniques is that Moby used to enjoy Del coming around for the sessions, he seemed to love every one. I am more than happy to highly recommend Alert Dog Training.

We have a beautiful 8mth old German Shepard that didn't pay the slightest bit of attention to us when out for a walk especially if there were any other dogs around. Lei soon sorted that out and got her attention. After going through the training one on one she has improved in leaps and bounds and I have also been educated in the ways of a dog! She knows all of the commands and is much better when other dogs are around. I hate to think what she would have been like if I didn't find Alert! We highly recommend them to anyone with a puppy or older dog that has no manners.

Del has been a great point of reference to getting back to the form of dog obedience we knew worked, especially with German Shepherds. After the usual puppy school and trying RSPCA, we decided that we had just become so confused with the different forms of positive food reward based training (which would be fine if you have a puppy that is food focused) - that we would try the balanced dog training methods which Del promotes. At 43 kg and 11 months old - our German Shepherd boy was social, confident but headstrong and not particularly responsive to the positive methods we were using (more on his terms rather than ours). In comes Del,(thank you very much) - back to basics, and with a firm hand and reinforcing the need for a consistent approach by everyone in our family to his training; our boy is now a happy and relaxed dog who understands his boundaries.
