Went to Hippos to get a quick takeaway due to its convenient location (across from Clayton station). I ordered at the counter where you can see through to the kitchen. The floor was incredible filthy. It looked like a scene from Kitchen Nightmares. I had to make myself look away otherwise I'd turned off the pizza I had ordered. I sat down to wait for my food at one of the tables and it wasn't cleaned properly, a fly sucking on the succulent sauce stains!
The pizza passed the taste test (maybe not for those with classier palates). I did overhear one of the pizza makers asking another - how they were going to work with the frozen (gasp!) prawns...
I was incredibly tolerant to swallow the food, but I hope I will never have to get last minute takeaway from Hippos again.
We had a cosy intimate long lunch at Movida Aqui. We had an informative waitress who made stunning recommendations and had intimate knowledge of the food she was recommending. She pronounced the Spanish names of the dishes with accuracy but without making you feel you were ignorant.
The quality of the food was exceptional, giant prawns, wagyu beef. The tapas allowed for a communal "feel" to the dining and stimulated the palate. The experience provided an opportunity to savour the food rather than just gulp it down with fork and knife. It required the use of fingers, which enhanced the physical experience.
I would recommend this to anyone for the quality and service. They were both tops.
We sent our 15 month old there as it was close to home. There are a few things that I didn't like when we went for orientation: firstly, the carer left the gated outdoor play area to grab a camera and the kids were left on their own albeit, it was a fenced up area.
They served tuna and pasta, but I could not see any veggies. Our child was there for 5 months, in that time he has had two carers that he bonded with leave. Overall, they seem to have a high turnover. There was more than 4 kids with one carer many times I drop my kid off.
All that we tolerated, the reason we left was that they increased the fees by $40 per week (with rebate it's $20). That meant an extra $100 out of pocket each month. We understand that fees have to increase, but not by that much at once. I felt that the owners were not accessible either.
