One of my favourite places for yum cha in Melbourne. Their prices are reasonable and their dumplings are above average. Highly recommended that bookings are made in advance and you turn up on time else they give your table to those who have rocked up on time without a booking. It can get a little chaotic during the weekends with little space to move due to the restaurant putting in as many tables as they can fit. But still a good yum cha experience.
Fine dining for yum cha = the higher prices. The decor inside this restaurant is amazing and very fancy. It really does feel a little like a palace for royalty with the heavy big chairs. The dumplings are one of the best I've had in Melbourne.
Dinner on the other hand is not worth the high price. We had the set menu for 8 and the menu consisted of very normal average Chinese restaurant dishes. None of which impressed us and cost us $400-$450.
Modern, casual dining with modern decor. Contemporary Asian food which even my grandma who has a preferences to Chinese food, enjoyed. We had a degustation menu which contained many different flavours. Each plated very nicely. The food was tasty which surprised me as the restaurant was so quiet on a weekend.
Food here is on the pricey side but is reasonable in terms of fine dining. One of the best steaks I've had in Melbourne, cooked to perfection. A wide selection of entrees available and tastes great. The staff are attentive and ensure your dining experience is pleasant. While selecting a sweet wine, the girl serving our table, happily let me taste different types until I was happy with the wine selected. Definitely will be back again!
Approximate cost: $50
Fine dining Japanese and tends to be on a much pricier side. Despite this, the place is always busy with corporate employees. If you're going in a large group during peak lunch hour then it's highly recommended you make a booking in advance. Else for a table of 2, a wait time of 15 minutes usually without a booking unless you get there early.
I've had their bento boxes which are really tasty and very filling. The waiting staff are very softly spoken and attentive.
The quality of the food is satisfactory. There's not a whole lot on the menu which catches my eye but I do come here and order their vege red curry every time. It's quite chilly but I enjoy the flavours on the dish.
If you're a non smoker, it would be recommended that you sit away from the door to the balcony area as they leave that door opened and will not close the door. The restaurant is a nice hide out from the busy city streets. It's usually quiet so you're able to talk to others without shouting.
Hong Kong style cafe with no real specialisation in a particular cuisine. Their menu is extensive and covers foods from a number of cuisines, including chinese, japanese and western. The cafe itself can get quite busy so if you're in a large group, a booking in advance would probably be best.
The atmosphere is very casual. Highly recommended for those after a quick casual meal as the food comes out quickly. Their Hong Kong style milk tea is awesome!
Their food is good in terms of Chinese food. Price is reasonable. Only downfall is their service, their butcher and staff manning the roast area can be quite rude and arrogant. On a number of occasions, I've heard one of the butchers making perverted comments about girls he sees outside the window. Very unprofessional.
One of our families favourite local Chinese restaurants. The prices aren't overly expensive and the serving sizes and flavours are above average. The staff here are quite attentive and clear away dishes as you finish them.
Large restaurant which can get quite loud at times making it an inappropriate location if you want to just quietly catch up with friends or family. Service can be quite slow at times, often hard to catch the attention of someone. We often have to ask for the same thing twice or three times before we actually get it.
The food appears to be a hit and miss for meat dishes. The first time I had it, the meat was perfect but the last few times I've had the same meat dish, the meat was over cooked and dry. I've steered clear of the meat dishes since and tried other dishes such as pasta which was cooked beautifully.
