Real bargains of kitchenware, Christmas paraphernalia and partywear. We drop in here every time we need a last minute item and there it is! Prices are incredibly affordable and quality not so bad. The staff is different every time we go but they're all approachable and helpful.
Approximate cost: $3 for Christmas lights & $5 for salad spoons
The staff at this grocery shop are very humble and helpful. The place is a bit chaotic but you get used to their friendliness and the prices are the best I've seen for some bulk items (cling wrap, desserts, olive oil). Parking at the front is a problem but there's lots more spots around the corner. Greens are fresh and plenty. I enjoy the bargains here.
Approximate cost: $15 for a roll of 600m of cling wrapp)
This lovely and cosy bookshop has an appealing cafeteria that allows you to enjoy the books while you decide whether to buy. I've attended a couple of book launches and had great fun talking to the authors and getting the books autographed. Prices are high (they're high these days for any hard copy books anywhere; no excuse but it's the reality).
An expensive but entertaining way of spending your time after work or study up till late at night. The shop has fascinating corners with an incredible range of books. We can't help but buy every time we go "just to browse". When we have ordered they always ring us within two weeks and have the piece ready for us. We found Gleebooks to be a very reliable business.
Approximate cost: $30-70 per book
We loved the science, biography and history sections. Several times we have immersed ourselves in this store for hours and have come out so inspired! the staff helped us search for rare books both on computer and in the shelves. Very helpful. The children's section still has limited non-fiction but the children's reading area is so inviting. And there's a cafeteria too, so really, this place knew how to get us and it was worth the price we paid.
For a three-and-a-half star hotel we got a cramped room with unfashionable furniture, no minibar, no internet and poor TV reception. I guess it's to be expected as you get what you pay for. We also got a decent 24-hour reception service and central location but had to cope with traffic noise as we weren't too far from the ground floor. This is a last resort for a family trip if you can't afford 4-star accommodation nearby when there are large events in Brisbane.
I had a lovely business trip and this 2-bedroom apartment made a big difference! Perfectly located near shops, library, river bridge and CBD markets. My colleague and I had clean, uncluttered, nicely furnished rooms and a fantastic city view. We could go for nice walks during the day but it was a bit unsafe at night. The reception staff were unintrusive and always there. Highly recommend the Oaks Towers.
I went there for a business trip and stayed at a deluxe studio for 1 person. The accommodation and views were superb, with a spacious room and comfy bed, the hotel is walking distance from the mall and restaurants and the price was reasonable. However, there was a long queue for the buffet breakfast the next morning so I had to walk elsewhere for breakfast before my meeting. The evening seafood buffet was exorbitant by comparison with the many restaurants nearby. The worst features were the small swimming pool for a hotel that size and the bar right next to the lobby which is always crowded and noisy as many tour buses arrive frequently and many drinkers clutter the entrance. Not recommended unless you are schoolie who enjoy loud nights in.
Approximate cost: $164 for single studio without breakfast & $75 for dinner without drinks
We liked this very family-oriented place with separate baby pool, heated pool for older kids and outdoor larger pool with perfect water temperature, although we have found the water cleanliness is not always there. Admission fees were OK but we have to pay extra for hot showers. The lifeguards were very watchful and the shop had very handy though pricey sunscreen and goggles. The canteen area is spacious, with lots of tables and seats where we had fresh focaccias, muffins and spinach gozlemes!
Approximate cost: $~$6 for adult admission and $8 for gozlemes
We had an amazingly elegant apartment with spacious bathroom and decent views & free internet. The hotel was centrally located across the road from many restaurants and close to shopping mall and public transport. Staff were very well informed about touristy things to do, were helpful and friendly, and the area was safe to walk at night. Excellent value for money accommodation but no so much for the buffet breakfast, with plenty of competition at better prices nearby.
Approximate cost: $165/night for king size deluxe apartment
