If you like cute and vibrant little cafes, Vargabar is worth checking out. It has a great vibe, free WiFi, fantastic coffee, friendly and attentive staff. It only seats 30-40 people at mostly small table settings so if you are planning on meeting a group here you may be out of luck but it is only 20m from King Street if they are too busy.
I followed my doctor here from another practice as I was so happy with the one I had. The centre is like most in that they are a conglomerate of good and not so good GPs. I would recommend Dr Loretta Rowan and Dr Timothy Shortus to anyone who is looking for a local regular doctor. These two are exceptional. Many of the other doctors back them up competently so it makes for a good service overall.
I checked out all of the gyms around Newtown before signing up with one. This one has the best of all worlds. Quality equipment, no queues, good classes with very interactive instructors. If you are willing to pay the exorbitant prices that gyms charge in general, this one is probably better value than most. The music is present but not overpowering - no DOOF DOOF here which is a nice change. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Fantastic location overlooking the park. Good spot for locals to catch up for a coffee. Not much choice in food and the service is not very customer focused. On some days "Canteen" describes the service reasonably well. Worth it though to have a coffee by the park.
Very friendly cafe. They do tasty and great value bacon and egg rolls all day long - my fav!! The staff are chatty but not over-familiar and very helpful. Nice outdoor space to enjoy a nice spring day.
French music, pastries, whimsical furniture and decor. This is a great cafe to share a coffee and cake with a friend. Fantastic feel at this place. Give it a try!
This is a mixed bag of a store. It's a HUGE second hand bookstore. The categories are well laid out so finding your area of interest is not difficult. The books are stacked two deep so finding something to interest is not difficult but finding just what you're looking for is a bit hit and miss. Pricing is excellent and they do records and CDs as well.
I've always loved Clem's Chicken for the whole 15 years I have lived in Newtown. Their barbecued and fried chicken is second to none and they do fantastic vegetables. Look out for when they have Pavlova in the window - it's the best!
One of the best auto mechanics I have used. They are thorough and kept me informed all the way through the process. Made sure to let me know that the next service had an expensive component to it so that I had time to prepare for it. Highly recommended.
This is a large Chinese restaurant in the centre of Newtown. The food is good and reasonably priced. The decor is very basic. Good to take a group to for a quick meal before heading to the movies across the road.
