I have tried repeatedly over the last few months to make an appointment with Dr Paulo Pinho at the Melbourne clinic. The phone is never answered, the voicemail directs callers to book on the website. This is always a red flag. I sent through my enquiry which was never answered. I have all the necessary x-rays already, and asked if I was a candidate for the treatment I am after, and if I could get their direct email to send them through. I looked at their booking form online, and the dentist who the booking would be with was someone I had never heard of, not Dr Pinho. Red flags everywhere. Seeing as there is no way to directly contact Dr Pinho, or to have him or his staff return emails, I am left with no choice but to give a 1 star review. It's so strange that I have money to give a business, and they just don't seem to want it. All of the reviews for this practice are 6 years old or older, there is obviously a reason for that. Beware.

Dr Paulo did not take my case on of wisdom teeth removal due to risks of nerve damage with what my Xrays showed. Although he did not take my case on, he was very professional, and took his time to explain to me in detail the procedure, the risks involved and how my case is different to others and holds a higher risk of nerve damage. Other dentist did not even tell me this. I really respected and appreciated his effort and time even though he couldn't help me. Did not charge me either, but had the case been opposite, without a doubt I would have booked my surgery with him

Wow people complain about that weirdest things! Not being charged? That's got to top the list! I myself found Dr Pinho's bedside manner to be excellent. A really nice guy who clearly has a load of experience with wisdom teeth as well as dental implants (hence the 'older' patients in waiting area I suspect). i had 4 wisdom teeth removed in the St Kilda day hospital under anaesthetic. I paid $970 to Dr Pinho for something I had been quoted $2000 for elsewhere so was super happy. I had no swelling or bruising and the procedure was smooth from beginning to end. I've sent all my mates. Dr Pinho is a genuinely nice guy clearly a skilled surgeon and not so bad on the eye either;)

Well, I shall review honestly based on my experience:

Quality - Clean clinic. Very neat and tidy. Modern. Might want to clean the dust on the ceiling near the vent though.

Service - Didn't appreciate the pretension from the receptionist. Also didn't appreciate some other clinic sending me a text message about tooth whitening after I ticked the "would you like to know more about teeth whitening" box on the form (thought that could be done at Collins St. and not have my number sent out to outsourced clinics). Or the fact that I was told I would have to pay $80 for an x-ray if I didn't bring my own. When was that mentioned to me before the appointment? Or do I have to scour the website beforehand? I received so many text messages to 'remind' me of the appointment but nothing about x-rays... And I too experienced the pacing back and forth to the window from the dentist (can't remember his name) as he spoke to me. What's with that? Bedside manner applies to dentists as well as doctors, doesn't it?

Value - Not bad. Pay for what you get. Well, if I could turn back time I'd pay a little extra and go somewhere else. Sorry.

Approximate cost: $350

As I walked in the receptionist said my name as if she was expecting me. That made me feel nice. But what made me feel like nothing was when the Dr spoke to me whilst looking through the window and refused to remove my wisdom only because I'm 30 years old and only after looking at my teeth for less than 30 seconds without an x-ray. Note that a woman much older than me was in the waiting room and a woman much older than her had gone in before me. We were all there for the same thing. Then there was this awkward moment when he followed me out to the reception and said, "Nothing for (insert my name)". Meaning I didn't owe them any money. That's right I wasn't going to pay the $50 fee. I was waiting for over 30 mins and spent less than 3 minutes in his room. Only to be told I'm too old and that I'm in the wrong place. Pain is still there. Wisdom teeth are still bleeding. Thanks Dr, great service.

Dear Vavarak
It is unfortunate and frustrating that you misunderstood or simply did not listen to what I have explained to you when you came to visit us in our clinic on Collins Street.
What I have explained to you in certainly much longer than 3 minutes was that your case was beyond my expertise and would need to be refer to a medical specialist. Your tooth was ankilosed or fused to your lower jaw on a very difficult position which can occur sometimes more often on patients over 30 years and not just on you. Age is certainly a very relevant factor when it comes to removal of wisdom teeth and more often older patients are referred to medical specialists in our practise as explained to you.
I have also explained to you that we do not charge for consultations unless we can take on the case. I simply feel more comfortable that way and to this date it is something that every patient really appreciates. I am very surprise with the fact that your are upset with the waiving of your consultation fee and cannot comprehend why.
I understand your frustration with the fact that we could not help with your case but suggest you listen to the explanation given to you prior to unfairly review business this way.
I also apologize we were running late 30 minutes on that day but it is inevitable sometimes due to the nature of our service.
Kind regards
Dr Pinho

I visit above clinic mainly because of the advertised fee for wisdom tooth removal.

Its basically got proven what you and get. Don't expect top notch customer service. They know they doing little cheap and affordable, talk to the point and rest they leave upto you to decide.
They will hand over few pamphlets and there you go.

Will recommend to go there first nd seek 2 opinion and come back at this place for removal etc.

Approximate cost: $1200

Dear Kuma
We are very proud to conduct comprehensive consultations in our clinic that last on average longer than 30 minutes. Every new patient fills a medical form and is given a pamphlet with general information about the procedure and our service. It is not only a legal requirement but also helps during the consultation since more knowledgeable patients will take more advantage of the consultation by being able to ask more relevant questions.
I agree with your other comments. We are known for been a safe and affordable option and we are not a flashy practise. Yes , we do try to talk straight to the point and yes once all aspects of your specific case are discussed including all risks and benefits to remove or not your wisdom teeth , we leave up to the patients to decide and give us an informed consent to what they want.
Kind regards

3 months I was referred by my dentist to an oral maxillo facial surgeon after a nasty painful infection on one of my lower wisdom teeth. It took me more than a month to have a consultation with the surgeon since their waiting list was very long. After the long wait I went for the consult and was quoted an outrageous amount of money for my surgery : 4 wisdom teeth at the hospital : $2800.00!!! I didn't have this money and was very lucky to find the wisdom teeth professionals and dr Paulo Pinho from a friend that had surgery with him. I saw Dr pinho who was the dentist surgeon on collins st the same week I called the service. The lady on the phone was very helpful with my previous questions. Dr Paulo Pinho offered me surgery the following day at his clinic with sedation for only $950 ! He was simply amazing during surgery. Made me feel very relaxed and I lost all my anxiety. Dr Pinho was extremely gentle and surgery was totally pain free the entire time. I totally recommend Dr Pinho s service s and the wisdom teeth professionals overall. I was suggest people to be careful with the shocking prices been charged by other surgeons out there. As everyone knows, it never hurts to have a second opinion and quote at least.

Approximate cost: $950 for surgical removal of 4 wisdom teeth

Dear Hugh
